Sep-14-11  fischer2009: Brilliant play by grischuk here.Chucky jus gets outplayed here.
Sep-14-11  sneaky pete: 32... Bxh1 is another way to prevent the mate on h7.
Sep-14-11  kia0708: Grischuk on Ivanchuk and Judit Polgar:

<I played very well in the 1st game — got an opening advantage and then transposed to a very unpleasant ending for Black, which Ivanchuk was unable to hold.

In the 2nd game I got a horrible position, and after å6-e5 it was completely lost. Ivanchuk didn't give me a chance.

In the 3rd game I played in Polgar style:
my combination was absolutely unsound, but all the pieces on the board started to hang, and the opponent resigned in three moves. This is so typical for Judit !>

Sep-14-11  fischer2009: 33 ... f4 and black is winning.Well i must guess nerves as usual is where IVANCHUK fails himself.33... Rc7 is a blunder though Grischuk played extra creatively in this game.

scormus: Playing it through, its like watching one of those Hollywoods, the sort Robert Siodmak did. The klutz of a hero stumbles into the mire and cant get out. Painful to watch and worse to play.

First 17 move W moved 2 minors, castled, moved the K once more and made 13 pawn moves. How could he ever hope to win? And how did B's game implode quite so dramatically? I thought I was the specialist at that sort of thing but Chuky beats me hands down :(

Jimfromprovidence: White speculated and got away with it.

It's too bad that under the strict time constraints black could not see 33...f4, as it looks good in the four variations I looked at.

For example, if 34 g4 34...Qe6!

This move protects c8 as well as the g6 knight and threatens Rxc7. Since black is already ahead he protects his lead nicely here.

34 gxf4 loses quickly to 34...Nxf4, forking two pieces and threatening 35...Qe1+ with mate to follow.

34 Bxf4 loses quickly as well to 34...Qe1+ 35 Bf1 Nxf4.

After 34 c8=Q+, it's an extremely difficult challenge to see a win quickly, but white loses to 34… Bxc8, seeing 35 Bh6 Re7 (black also wins with a different variation after 35...Rf7) 36 Bxg6 Qe1+ 37 Kg2 Bb7+ 38 Kh3 hxg6 39 Qxg6 Qe6+.

Sep-14-11  wordfunph: disastrous 33...Rxc7 :(
Sep-14-11  sfm: <Jimfromprovidence: 33...f4> Hard to argue against.
Sep-15-11  Gerenense: <sneaky pete: 32... Bxh1 is another way to prevent the mate on h7.>

Anyone can refute this statement? it seems that Ivanchuk missed this simple winning move and collapsed after that...

al wazir: Black's 13...Na5 effectively lost a piece. That ♘ remained out of action for the rest of the game. It was, ahem, sidelined.
