Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-03-10  810609: I´m sure that some 30 years ago, game like this would earn Pyotr one way ticket to Siberia.
Oct-03-10  percyblakeney: Not the first time Salgado Lopez makes himself unpopular in Russia: I Salgado Lopez vs E Alekseev, 2009
Oct-03-10  Kaspablanca: 810609: Svidler would earn one way tickey in the middle of Berigh Strait!
Oct-03-10  shintaro go: The game that cost Russia the gold. Very poor performance by Svidler
Oct-03-10  AuN1: some complained that svidler was unjustly given more games with black than white, but with the way he played here, maybe that was a good thing.

if anything, this should get him a one way ticket off the first russian team.

Oct-04-10  Wild Bill: Let's give the credit where it is due: Salgado played a very good game.
Oct-04-10  zoren: Svidler totally mishandled this line with 4. Nge2. Grischuk is a great specialist in this line, surprised that the preparations in this like was zilch. Sasha could have helped him a lot here.

9...h5! is a very typical move intending not to attack, but to stifle his eventual play that will result on the kingside, which puts a very big question on the move order approach to this entire opening system.

Oct-04-10  lilfoohk: Perhaps we can use this pun for this game : Peter out!
Oct-06-10  Hesam7: <But Svidler made a bad blunder and resigned. He jumped up from the spot, covered his face with his hands and fled to the far end of the hall. I went after him. The grandmaster could barely hold back his tears. Peter understood that he’d let everyone down. And if Kramnik didn’t beat Shirov we were even risking losing the silver. Grischuk and Karjakin rushed to Svidler. Peter emotionally explained why he lost. But words were superfluous.> Kirill Zangalis in Soviet Sport
Oct-06-10  kurtrichards: <The grandmaster could barely hold back his tears.> ...the agony of defeat.
Oct-06-10  whiteshark: After <28.Qe1!> the game is still in balance.

Oct-06-10  polarmis: Shipov thought <23.Qc1> instead of <23. Qe1> was a clear mistake - if not fatal then at the very least highly dubious.
