Nov-17-09  firebyrd: Here, similar to the situation in Carlsen vs Kosteniuk, 2009 Carlsen starts to move 72 ... Qc4+, then sees that 73. Qd4+ with check then wins for VG, and corrects to Qc6+. But the queen was released, and the move cannot be corrected.

The last move should be Qc4+, or deleted from the score altogether.

Nov-17-09  Jafar219: Of corse Gashimov is better than Carlsen!
Nov-19-09  Rawprawn: Strange that C needed to be told by VG that he released the Q.
Nov-20-09  Sbetsho: <Jafar219> I would be interested of the reason for your ridiculous bashing of Carlsen. Not only here, but in other posts you seem to have something very personal against him.
Nov-20-09  tamerkaratekin: 67. c7 is a blunder and leads to perpetual check. Gashimov needs to practice end-game technique. He played perfectly until the one pawn up queen endgame, and then did not know how to win, so he tried to randomize, and gave Carlsen the draw. One pawn up endgames should be rather effortless for those top-rated players, even under time trouble.

King march to the center of the board is a definite guide to perpetual check draw.

He should have used his queen from the b6-b7 to prevent the diagonal checks, defend the f2 pawn, and simultaneously push the c pawn. So, 67.Qb6 is the right move. Queen is such a strong piece, why just use is just for attack from d8, when you can use it from b6-b7 to defend as well.

Who am I? well, I am someone who made a similar mistake in one of my games. The game can be found here: T Karatekin vs P Hummel, 2003

I also beat Gashimov's big brother, but it is irrelevant =) S Gashimov vs T Karatekin, 1996

Gashimov was a 2300 rated 11 year old FM during that tournament.

Mar-19-10  dumbgai: Carlsen sure has quite a cheater's instinct.
Oct-30-14  newton296: the camera doesn't lie.

but it is nice to see a player so motivated to win he will try anything. but yes, looked very bad indeed.
