Oct-16-08 | | Touch of Knight: Thanks <TCE>. It was too good to be true. I’ve just voted for 48.Kf3, and with a draw offer. |
Oct-16-08 | | The Chess Express: Sure, no harm in looking. |
Oct-16-08 | | MindCtrol9: <The Chess Express>Yes,I know it,but I'm not thinking to get the <h pawn> right away.It is just a threat.I have to work on this. |
Oct-16-08 | | popski: Yeah, let's go draw guys, like Kramnik and Anand does... |
Oct-16-08 | | Robin01: I suggest we all vote for a draw now. It seems like a good outcome for our game. |

Oct-16-08 | | MindCtrol9: <Dmaster995> I do not give this game up,but if everyone wants to draw, that is OK with me.I like to fight like Rocky Balboa"it is not how hard you hit.but it is how hard can you get hit and keep forward".That is the way I am,I was a fighter,I am a fighter and I always be that way. |

I guess I must have lost a tempo somewhere while analysing earlier, maybe by mixing the two variations and forgetting the h-pawn up the ahead. |
Oct-16-08 | | Dmaster995: <MindCtrol9> I do believe that our best chances lie with this Kh3 move. Whether it is enough... I have my doubts. I am trying some analysis, but there are severe risks ( i.e moving rook of 7th, giving up f-file) which I don't think they're favourable to us. I'll get back to you. |

Oct-17-08 | | The Chess Express: “You first have to equalize before you look for something” (Bobby Fischer regarding 48. Kh3) |
Oct-17-08 | | MWYOUNG: I strongly recommend Kh3, I think we can hold a draw with Kh3. I can not say this with other moves. Choose wisely.48.Kh3 a5 49.g4 hxg3 50.hxg3 Rh8 51.Kg2 Kb5 52.Rf1 Ka4 53.Ra1 Rg8 54.Kh3 Re8 55.Kg2 b6 56.g4 Re7 57.Kf3 e5 58.dxe5 Rxe5 59.Ra2 = click for larger view |
Oct-17-08 | | MWYOUNG: The reason why Kf3 is a mistake is very simple. The rook must get back to Rf1 to defend our a3 pawn. Since we did not play a4 the last move, the black king can now attack a3. Kf3 is other wasted tempo we can not afford. |
Oct-17-08 | | Eyal: <Gypsy> Yeah, very nice. Actually, I haven't considered it as a "problem line" in the first place because I was somehow under the impression that our pawns can get the job done by themselves, with a couple of tempi to spare - as in 56.Ke1 d4 57.Kd1 d3 58.h5 c2+ 59.Kd2 c3+; but, of course, if White plays here 60.Kc1 rather than Kxc3 then Ka4-Kb3 is necessary and we transpose to your line, which hangs on a single tempo. |
Oct-17-08 | | MindCtrol9: <TCE> Mentioning R.Fischer,Is it not today the first year of his death? |
Oct-17-08 | | MWYOUNG: RJF died on January 17, 2008. |

Oct-17-08 | | The Chess Express: <MindCtrol9: 48. Kh3 a4 49. Rf4 Kb5 50 .Rf1 Ka4 52. Rxe6 Rb8><Dmaster995: MindCtrol9 I do believe that our best chances lie with this Kh3 move.> This analysis makes no sense. 52. Rxe6 is impossible. The reason why 48. Kh3 loses is very simple. Black’s ♖ can infiltrate our position at will, and black promotes before we do. Lets take a look at <MindCtrol9>‘s idea. 48. Kh3 a4 <49. Rf1>. This is a more efficient way to play the line. 49...Kb5 50. Ra1 Ka4 51. Ra2 b5 52. Ra1 Rg5 53. Ra2 e5 54. dxe5 Rxe5 55. Kxh4 Re3 56. g4 Rxc3 57. g5 Re3 58. g6 Re2 59. Kg5 (59. Kh5 Rxh2) d4 60. g7 d3 0-1 It’s too late for the Rf1 idea. Defending the a ♙ and shuttling back and forth between a2 … a1 no longer works. <48. Kf3> with the draw offer is our move. |
