Sneaky: ooops not Romeo+Juliet, MacBeth of course
Feb-25-07  Marvy: Isn't Rd1 now kind of evil.
Feb-25-07  WBP: No--"Sound and fury" is MacBeth

Sneaky: For some reason I was thinking of the prolgue in R&J. Then I made my error worse by trying to delete+fix it, which has been proven time and time again to be utterly impossible...
Feb-25-07  bumpmobile: Actually, It was LA Story quoting MacBeth.
Feb-25-07  JustAFish: Looks like Magnus scraped out a draw.
Feb-25-07  Marvy: looks like the kid may draw. his performance is amazing after bombing out in corus
Feb-25-07  JustAFish: I was thinking the Tempest, myself, but I remember the verse now: "We are such stuff as dreams are made of, and our little life is rounded with a sleep." Same gist.

keypusher: oh cmon Svidler, can't you try for a while?
Feb-25-07  karnak64: Those weasels -- they did it again.
Feb-25-07  technical draw: Man, we sure have a lot of intellectuals here. 136 kibitzers yelled, "It's Macbeth, dummy"!!
Feb-25-07  Dionyseus: Drawler!

WannaBe: Oh that Svidler-Calrsen game costed me a bunch of chess bucks!
Feb-25-07  technical draw: Well, it's time to give him a new name, welcome Magnus Drawsen.
Feb-25-07  technical draw: Topalov/Morosevich looks like a great game.
Feb-25-07  Strongest Force: Here's an original quote: in our age of instant gratification, we've lost grasp of our true values: a active knight is now worth no more than a bishop that was doing pawn-duty". 8-)
Feb-25-07  Le Petit Pion: I was reading Macbeth instead of watching this game. I suppose it all amounts to the same.
Feb-25-07  Marmot PFL: I thought Svidler played well up until 24.b5. maybe black can draw after 24.Qd3 too but it would be a lot more work. Svidler doesn't seem to be working too hard so i guess he is saving his energy for the 2nd half in Spain...
Feb-26-07  euripides: According to Henrik Carlsen's excellent blog, http://blog.magnuschess.com/index.h...

<In the middle game Magnus felt he also lost the thread and was clearly worse when Peter went for the interestingas b5-break and Bxf6. White is better but it is not very easy and Peter went on to blunder most of the advantage with Bd4 having missed the response Qf4! >

I wonder if 26.Rd1 is the place to look. Black can defend the pawn indirectly with 26...Re8, but it looks as if White can renew the attack on it with something like 27.Kf1.

Feb-26-07  paul1959: <euripides> the f6 Bishop is hanging after 27 Kf1. I do like 26 Qd4 with the possibility of Bh8 or Be5
Feb-26-07  Xaurus: <Well, it's time to give him a new name, welcome Magnus Drawsen.>Are you trying to be funny? Who has the most decided games in this tournament so far?
Feb-26-07  euripides: <paul bishop hanging> So it is. 26.Rd1 Re8 27.Bh4 is possible e.g. 27...Qf4 28.Qxf4 Bxf4 29.g3.
Feb-26-07  Knight13: <Well, it's time to give him a new name, welcome Magnus Drawsen.> Maybe you should think about the possibility of YOU even drawing one of these GMs before slandering someone else.
Feb-27-07  Atking: <paul1959: <euripides> the f6 Bishop is hanging after 27.Kf1.> May be the idea of <euripides>'s 27.Kf1 was Qxd5 without fear black 28. ...Re1+! In all it's even more impressive. I mean in Morrelia (Except against Morozevich), Carlsen didn't got any advantage from the opening or a better preparation but on his own understanding of the game. This guy will go far.

FSR: Had play continued, after 27...Bxf4 28.Bb6, both 28...Ra6 and 28...a4 are 0.00, per Stockfish.

28...Ra6 looks like it blunders the a-pawn, but in fact 29.Bxa5?? d4! 30.cxd4 Bd2 wins the bishop!

After 28...a4 29.Rd1 Rb8 30.Ba5, Black can repeat with 30...Ra8= or play 30...Kf7, when 31.Rxd5?! would allow 31...Bc1 winning the b-pawn, though White can still hold a draw.
