Dec-15-06  DCP23: Who would have thought Nepo was good in the endgame?!
Dec-15-06  ikipemiko: Don't forget that a1 square is dark, so if white changes all figures for a knight and the e pawn, black will have only a pawn and bishop and the game will be draw.
Dec-15-06  cannibal: Dead draw now after Bxe4 b4+
Dec-15-06  Gryznx: Alekseev is making an easy draw for himself, I think.
Dec-15-06  Jakobicek: the easiest way to force draw...
Dec-15-06  Gryznx: Why the heck are they playing more moves? This has become silly.
Dec-15-06  Jakobicek: black is a piece up... so... he can play his 50 moves...
Dec-15-06  DCP23: Nepo is unbelievable. He will play on and on and on.

Peligroso Patzer: Inarkiev has finally played the forced (but also very strong) 41. Nf6. I think we are going to have at least one decisive game in the last round.
Dec-15-06  ikipemiko: There is a little tiny chance for Black to put white in zugzwang
Dec-15-06  Jakobicek: who wins the title if this is draw? any play-offs or alike?
Dec-15-06  DCP23: Let's see, the last capture and/or pawn move was on 64, so that makes 64 + 50 = 114.

tpstar: They must be waiting for their Dads to pick them up. Great fighting spirit, though. =)

<chessgames.com> Thanks for the live broadcast.

chessgames.com: <tpstar> Thanks, it was our pleasure. When this game ends that will be the end of today's broadcasts. Thanks to everybody for coming by.

Incidentally, our database has 6 ♗♘ vs ♘ endings not including this one (see Endgame Explorer).

The longest game with this ending was 112 moves (Azmaiparashvili vs L Dominguez, 2004), maybe they are trying to break the old record.

Dec-15-06  Karpova: Amazing Ian!
A draw is a great result but even better is that Ian is pressing for the win with the black pieces against one of the co-leaders so far. Good that he switched to the Sicilian defense. Not that the French is bad but he lost with it (same as Radjabov in his first Linares, i.e. against Kramnik). 1...c5 suits him much better because he's a very enterprising and aggressive player.

chrisowen: typical, another service provider failing to do its job
Dec-15-06  Gryznx: Two bishops vs a knight, on the other hand, is a win.
Dec-15-06  Gryznx: only 12 more moves to break the record :)
Dec-15-06  Karpova: Why should Nepomnyaschiy not play on? It's a good training for him!
Dec-15-06  Eurotrash: Draw agreed
Dec-15-06  DCP23: <Eurotrash: Draw agreed>

Oh no. A premature draw on move 109, when there were 5 more moves to be played till the 50-move rule kicks in. Such a shame. Cheating the spectators out of so much fun.

Dec-15-06  Maria Nikolova: There were only 4 moves to break the record!
Dec-17-06  Gowe: This is the answer to those who said why did Nepo keep playing that dead draw end. (Faust is Nepomniachtchi's nickname in ICC. Natalrn is just a guy.)

NatalRN comenta: faust u lacked respect also with the champion alekseev trying win Kh + B against B...

NatalRN comenta: u are a boring oponent imo, with all respect :P

<faust(IM) susurra: LOL
faust(IM) susurra: i offered him a draw near 52 or 53 move faust(IM) susurra: he disagreed>

I think that is a good argue.

Apr-28-08  positionalgenius: Unusual endgame here, nice game to watch.
