LIFE Master AJ: You could call this one, "Mauled by a GM." Or ... "Did you get the license number of that truck?" Or ...

LIFE Master AJ: The full story of this game - plus a fair analysis - can be found on one of my web pages. (http://www.angelfire.com/games3/lif...)
Jul-03-07  DWINS: <LMAJ>, I don't see any analysis at all about this game at the above link. Is this the correct link or am I missing something?

LIFE Master AJ: <Dwins> The link is correct.

There are pop-ups on that page, you may have to allow them in order for the page to load fully.

If you have a security system on your computer, they routinely block many "Angel-Fire" sites. Also - some users of Netscape and Linux have problems viewing my pages ... I have no idea why. (I do know that they load OK with MSIE. I use version 7.)

There is nothing bad on that page, just some analysis and three diagrams. The "pop-ups" are a different story. (I have no idea what they contain, I also cannot control their content.)

Aug-24-09  birthtimes: Why not 14...b6?! If 15. Be2 Bb7 16. Nd2 Nhf6 17. Bf3 Ne5 18. Bxe5 dxe5 19. Nc4 Rab8 or if 15. Bc4 Bb7 16. Qd3 Qb8.

Perhaps more interesting, especially for OTB play, would be 13...c4 or 14...c4 followed by Rb8 and b5. But both of these lines would need thorough home preparation in order to stay afloat and to capitalize on any mistake(s) by the opponent...

Jun-03-11  panzerkampf: Hmmm, just another cheater who beat Goldsby, I do not think otherwise he could be beaten at all. Of course he used an engine during the game.
Jun-03-11  TheFocus: There is no possible way a mere 2735 is going to beat <TheSwordoftheLord> unless he is cheating.

Nope, can't be done.

Cheater GM Goldin!

keypusher: Now come on. I went and looked at AJ's site to see what he said about this game. He was self-deprecating and very respectful of his opponent, who he said clobbered him in one of his favorite lines seemingly effortlessly.

jessicafischerqueen: Also <AJ> played with great energy with the black pieces against a <GM> here- falling at the end to a winning tactical shot that dropped his Queen.
Jun-04-11  jahinder: Not understanding to now come on<keypusher>. I visited AJ Goldsby site by the link, AJ Goldsby says yes he got soundly trounced but also that he much insulted the GM Mr. Alexander Goldin. This is not goodness. Surely this is not the respectful behavior to use unkind names during match then after say I was not knowing his proper name.

Check It Out: Here's What AJ said about the circumstances of this game:

<The "Boris" Incident:

I had heard - more than once - that GM Goldin's nickname was Boris. I took this to be factual and reproduced it, although it was nothing more than hear-say. (I meant it as a compliment!)

I like Mr. Goldin. While on the quiet side, he certainly is not offensive or impolite.

I practically worshipped Boris Spassky as a child. He is still one of my favorite players.

I did NOT mean this to be insulting. Apparently, Mr. Goldin was offended by this.

My deepest and sincerest apologies to both the editor of floridaChess, and GM A. GOLDIN. I did NOT mean to offend or hurt or embarrass anyone!>

Certainly querying if someone's nickname is "Boris" would not be insulting. It's how the subject is broached that gives potential offense. Since the GM AND the editor received an apology it seems the approach was off-kilter enough to create much negative emotion.

At the end of the article, AJ asks, <Where did I go astray?>

Fire away...

FSR: The "Boris" incident may not even make the top 1000 list of offensive things A.J. has done. It seems like an innocent mistake for which A.J. has apologized. I would let it go.

FSR: Someone should submit this for GOTD under "The Goldin Touch."
Oct-05-11  hedgeh0g: Frankly, I'm a little surprised Goldsby didn't play on out of spi...I mean...to set an example for his students on never giving up.
Oct-06-11  Robed.Bishop: <hedgeh0g> Funny stuff. And people say they come for the games...
Oct-07-11  JoergWalter: games, which games?
