Nov-11-05  CeeFoR: Well for a beginner like myself this one is obvious, if 23.. takes the rook, he loses his queen. If he removes his queen from the rook threat, he gets mated~
Jan-11-19  lunchwithgina: The pun would be better if it were simply "Who'll stop Therien?". Still I wonder, still I blunder...are there are any other Credence Clearwater puns floating about?
Jan-11-19  SamAtoms1980: Dunno about CCR, but how about Kansas? I feel slightly less embarrassed about submitting <Garry On My Wayward Run> for this refutation of the Wayward Queen Attack by Kasparov:

Boris Becker vs Kasparov, 2000

AylerKupp: <lunchwithgina> My favorite GOTD pun for a game with the same player (I think), indeed my all-time favorite pun, was "I concede clearly now, Therain is gone."

An Englishman: Good Morning: Possible CCR puns for future Games of the Day.

If a male offspring of a GM wins a game he should have lost: "Fortunate Son."

If a woman named after the mother of Jesus Christ defeats a Super-GM: "Proud Mary."

If a ruling monarch wins a game: "Who'll Stop the Reign."

If Kurt Russell, who starred in a Western, wins a game: "Tombstone Shadow."

I can keep going, if you wish.

Jan-11-19  lunchwithgina: <SamAtoms1980> I like <Garry On My Wayward Run>, maybe a little obscure, but why not submit it?

<An Englishman> Good suggestions--regarding your "Fortunate Son" proposal, I will look for a father-son game where the son wins....

Jan-11-19  sfm: 12.-,Lg5?? really turned out to be a surprisingly terrible move, totally losing the game. Neat is 16.Rf4!, the precise attacking move. Black seems without any defense and after 22.Re4 the game is seriously over.
Jan-11-19  newzild: <lunchwithgina>

Morphy vs Morphy would be a good place to start.

Of course. That's why the longer version was used. Believe me, there was a series debate...

Jan-12-19  ACMEKINGKRUSHER: Howdy!!!

I did -- how many years ago I no longer remember.
