Jan-21-05 | | Franz the Stampede: <Moro is just incredibly unstable. He's half patzer, half genius, almost schizofrenic.> I agree... anyway I would still consider him a top 10 player...
Maybe he's not just in his best conditions but decided to partecipate nevertheless. I think that if Kramnik played the Russina Championship he might have similar results. But this would have not made him a bad player, in the same way it doesnt change the stuff for Moro.
Despite his current will to play unsound and maybe imprecise chess you shouldnt question his ability as a player, I guess... |
Jan-21-05 | | square dance: well if kramnik would've followed up an even performance in russia with a -4 through 5 rounds in corus we would've had to rethink our perceptions about him. |
Jan-21-05 | | gg2easy: MORO WON THIS GAME....THE BEST MOVE IS 19. NXD7! if 20. ..NxNthen 20. Qa4 FOLLOWED 21. RXB7 KXB7 22. Qa6+ 1-0 |

 | | tpstar: <gg2easy> Hello! Welcome to the group! Even the most diehard Moro fan must admit he *lost* this game. You might believe he had this game won, but that is not the same thing. Hopefully he'll have more success. See you around. |
Jan-21-05 | | Coleman: Moro is one of my favorite players and has been for the last few years. And yes his game over the last six months has been less the noteworthy. Maybe he been resting a bit. But I think that he is undoubtedly one of the top ten players in the world. His current rating is proof of that alone. Moro likes to play very aggressive chess. A player with a brilliant analytical mind will engage in this type of play. Those with less natural ability will most often play a more positional. Moro likes to initiate conflict and enter unclear positions because he feels he can find solutions. That is why I love to follow his games. And lets face it, at this point in the tournament...What does he have to loose? I think people forget how good you have to be to achieve a 23 or 2400 rating. You don't earn a 2700+ by accident. Give him time, he'll get back in shape. |
Jan-21-05 | | patzer2: <gg2easy> I believe you mean 20. Nxd7 Nxd7 21. Qa4 is what you consider decisive for White. However, after 21...Nb6 Black seems to maintain a small advantage. |
Jan-22-05 | | arjunkakar: Hard as i try, i cannot comprehend what MORO was upto here. I like agressive chess - but i cannot describe this game as anything but reckless. If he is an agressive player - he should stay agressive - no problem with that - but one has to show wisdom in that too. I think he does his talent no justice when he plays such reckless games. He needs to "grow up" if he wants to attain greatness. |
Jan-22-05 | | csmath: 13. a5 is a sound sacrifice. The next two knight sacrifices are reckless. But Anand did not play well and Moro actually acquired some compensation. 26. d5 is a blunder but Moro is trying to finish off Anand like Anand is some type of sub-2000 player. This game is quite ridiculous and what is most ridiculous about it is that Anand in the press room was explaining it as he was doing some great defence here? Moro is just totally out of any sense in this Corus. |
Jan-22-05 | | csmath: 24. Qxc7 ... Rxc7 25. Rc1 and white has compensation in dangerous pawns. Black would have to play very accurate not to get under the tide. It was quite likely a draw by repetition: 25. ... Nd7
26. Rca1 ... Rxc3
27. Bc6 ... Nb8
28. Ra8 ... Bd6
29. R1a7 ... Kc8
30. Rxf7 ... g4
31. Bd7 ... Kb7
32. Bc6 ... Kc8 draw. |
Jan-23-05 | | gg2easy: PATZER2, there is no nb5.. the move is 20. Nxd7 NxN 21. Qa4! and what ever black responds. i play RxB! followed by QA6! EASY WIN FOR MORO....GG! HAHAHAHA |
Jan-23-05 | | gg2easy: OH...U SAID NB6.. SORRRY BOUT THAT...BUT I STILL PLAY ROOK TAKES BISHOP! KxR... then i play Qa6+...then wat ever he responds and the rook on f1 soon will land on a1..easy win hahahaha |
Jan-23-05 | | gg2easy: oh yea..bfor the rook f1 to a1..i must check first lol..easy win |
Jan-23-05 | | ranchogrande: <to all > bottum line : the current chessworld would be in a poorer state ,if not for some"outlaws" as Moro.
Including ups and downs. Many us of would miss him if he wasnt around. |

Jan-23-05 | | rags: <csmath> Players are usually asked to discuss the game to press. There is nothing ridiculous about vishy describing the win. |
Jan-23-05 | | patzer2: <gg2easy> Good catch on 20. Nxd7 Nxd7 21. Qa4 Nb6?? (your laugh is indeed on me for recommending that dud!)allowing White to win after 22. Rxb2 Kxb2 23. Qa3+ Kc7 24. Qa7+ Kc8 25. Qxb6 .However, after 20. Nxd7 Nxd7 21. Qa4! Qd8 =, it appears Black holds the position. Play could continue 21...Qd8 22.Rxb7 Kxb7 23.Qa6+ Kb8 24.Ra1 Nb6 25.Qa7+ Kc8 26.Ra6 Qc7 27.Qxb6 Qxb6 28.Rxb6 =, when Black has sufficient counterplay to call it dead even (when maybe we can both enjoy the last laugh). I do wish Moro had found your line, as he is so intent on attacking lines in this tournament that he seems to be having trouble finding good defensive moves. |
Jan-24-05 | | samikd: The chess moro played in this game is not attacking chess. Its insane chess. And his insanity was confirmed when he decided to play on the endgame with a R vs R,B and N !! I've never seen a Grandmaster playing on with 2 pieces down in the endgame..not against Vishy Anand..not even against an IM |
Jan-25-05 | | RisingChamp: It wasnt really insane till the blunder Nxc4 the position was quite tense and even.Your opinion is unfairly biased by the result and the nationality of Moros opponent.I am Indian as well, but I dont think this insane chess just a very courageous attack which failed due to tactical mistakes. How does it hurt to play on-you dont lose anything by playing on so why complain about how long he plays on |
Jan-25-05 | | siu02jm: sacs are kool when done at the right time and when position is warrants it. what was morozovich thinking when he made the move 21 ♘xc4. and to continue on after making such a "blander" is much more embarassing still, was he hoping that anand will blunder as well, ridiculous!
maybe i would have, but i wouldn't bet on that! |
Jun-01-05 | | watchchess79: why didn't black take the queen 30>..QXQe6? He would have the 2 piece advantage then. |
Jun-01-05 | | ThePurplePimpernel: Hm. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that 20.♘xd7 ♘xd7 21.♕a4 ♘b6 22.♖xd7 ♘xa4 is just very, very winning for Black, being up ♕ and ♘ for ♖. |
Jun-01-05 | | your brilliance: <watchchess79> By forcing the Q exchange on e1, black gains a tempo. |
Feb-16-06 | | CowardlyKnight: Is it just me or does this game reflect a suicidal personality? |
Mar-23-07 | | scacchi: cowrdlyknight, yes i think it reflects at least some troubles... |

 | | plang: 7 Bxf6?!..Qxf6 8 g3 was new (it has not been repeated) and was a complete surprise to Anand. Anand knew that ..Bb7, ..d5 and ..Bd6 would be good enough for equality but decided to play more aggressively with 9..g5. Anand provided exhaustive analysis on 18..Bxf3 which leads to an advantage for Black but which requires very careful defense with many chances to go wrong; Anand considered his 18..d5 to be simpler from a practical standpoint. 22..Nxb6 23 Qa5..Bd6 24 Rb1..Bc7 25 Qc5..Qf8 26 Bf3..g4 27 Bd1..f5 would also have favored Black. Perhaps White should have considered trying to hold the ending with 24 Qxc7+. 26..d5? was a blunder but the game was already lost. Voted the 7th best game in Informant 92. While Morozovich's sacrificial attack was unsound it took all of Anand's resourcefulness to avoid all the traps in a complicated position. |
