Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-03-08  Alphastar: Last round game of the Hoogovens (Corus) B-group tournament in 1998. Kasimdzhanov was leading with the score of 9/10, Reinderman was in second place with 8/10. He beat Kasim and thus won the tournament on Sonneborn-Berger points.

When confronted with mate at the end of the game, Kasimdzhanov resigned and left the playing hall immediately, upon which all the spectators applauded for Reinderman while all the group A games were still going on.

The game ended 35 ... Qf6+ 36. Kxh5 Re5+ 37. Kg4 Qf5+ 0-1 (38. Kh4 Qg5#/Qh5#) but my student found 35 ... Re4+ 36. g4 Rxg4+! 37. hxg4 Qxg4#.

Great game by Reinderman. 31 ... Qg4! was very nice.
