May-13-06  sapfy: <MagnaPsygnosis> In the trolling business, there is a thin line between 'amusing' and 'tiresome'. Of course, if 'tiresome' is what you're aiming for, you're getting there.

May-13-06  MagnaPsygnosis: OK OK OK
You have your path with motifs and reasons

and of coarse I have mine...

So shall we leave it there....??

May-13-06  SniperOnG7: <MagnaPsygnosis> Personally, i have several points against ur posts above:

1) A GM does not mean that he/she has to rank among the top ten (as your examples seem to suggest) or even top a fifty. Kasparov, Fischer, etc should be considered as SUPER-GM. Even though this is not an official title, it is commonly accepted by all who has the slightest knowledge in chess.

2) At the time of this game, Magnus has just started his professional career. I mean, if i was to witness the first time you were on a bike and i laugh my head off when you fall off and graze your knee, that won't be very kind or fair.

3) Magnus is now far stronger with a rating above 2600. He is already better than most chess players in the world (including you and me) so if he should become a soccer player then what should us common patzers be?

4) His recent increase of rating points suggest that 2600s is not his peak - and even if he never reaches 2700s, remember Point 3) - ie respect him as a chessplayer whose strength you and i can never even get close to.

Probably the only point that i may agree with you is that <"Magnus is VERY overrated"> but imho <Magnus is not overated>.

May-13-06  MagnaPsygnosis: Geesh..... Looks like I made a mistake in questioning the power of the God of chess (aka Carlsen)

All 4 of your points are true, yes joustfull, yes.
I can also see that u put alot of thought into this "discussion".

However, I have learned not follow the stream in chessmedia... I have my own current to flow...

May-26-06  SniperOnG7: <I have my own current to flow...> That's sweet with me. Iv got no problem with that.
May-26-06  EmperorAtahualpa: What's wrong with 40.Kxg2?
Jun-09-06  MagnaPsygnosis: <whitehat1963> <not yet agm> True, true... Magnus got crushed and were thrown into the wind
Jun-10-06  borisbadenoff: <EmperorAtahualpa: What's wrong with 40.Kxg2?> It allows black to escape the beautiful mate in 5.
40. Kh2 Qh7 41. Nxf7 Re7 42. Qf6+ Kxh7 43. Qxe7+ Kh8 44. Qg7#
Jun-23-06  MagnaPsygnosis: is 7. ... Nd7?! part of the opening...or part of his 'plan'? What is the purpose of this move???
Jul-25-06  Tariqov: <magna>this move might be called bizzare and an ugly move by classical thinkers, but it is actually a deep hypermodern move. The plan is to protect the c5 pawn and allow the e pawn to move(e5) ,and then the Queen will take over to protect the c5 pawn(Qe7),as b6 is too weakening. After this is done the Knight will go to a beautiful outpost by d7-f8-e6-d4!Having nicely placed pieces.Of course, this might be part of the opening idea(theory),but if it isn't, i will be suprised that he found such a brilliant move, as without seeing the game i might not understand the move.
Sep-03-06  patzer2: This game appears to be an opening theory battle involving 12. b4!, which had apparently only been previously tried at the GM level in Ponomariov vs Kramnik, 2003.

Carlsen finds the correct reply 12...Ne6 =, but goes astray in the complications with 17...f4?

Instead, 17...Nxd4 18. Bxd4 Bxe5 = is OK for Black.

Sep-30-06  MagnaPsygnosis: <Tariqov>
mmm very deep indeed....and smart

Feb-03-07  IMDONE4: how about the endgame after 26...Qd3?

Finally, If the chess are going to be in the hands of the likes of carlsen, I might consider checkers as it would yield a much more complex game, then.>

Carlsen improved his world ranking to 6th place on FIDE's July 2008 list behind Viswanathan Anand, Vladimir Kramnik, Veselin Topalov, Vassily Ivanchuk and Alexander Morozevich with a rating of 2775...

Carlsen eclipsed a powerful and star studded field consisting of Topalov, Peter Leko, Dmitry Jakovenko, Teimour Radjabov and Wang Yue to win clear first prize with 8/10 at the category XXI Pearl Spring Chess Tournament (2009).

Carlsen's performance rating for the tournament was a record 3002 and lifted his FIDE rating in the November 2009 list to 2801, which makes him only the fifth player to surpass 2800, and easily the youngest. Carlsen's November 2010 FIDE rating is 2802 making him the 2nd ranked player in the world after Anand...

...the above taken from chessbase article on Magnus, point being that haters are merely that...haters

Nov-06-10  Bautismo: Anatias:

That's part of being number one. There will always be some losers who hate your guts, just because you're better than them. But then again, it's when people stop hating you that your career is over :)

Be very cautious when making predictions, especially about the future." (Sam Goldwyn)

<Cf.> Carlsen vs Wang Hao, 2012 (played earlier today), a pretty convincing performance by the current world #1.

As we say in poker, he'd better not give up his day job. Playing the lottery probably wouldn't be too profitable for him, either.

Reading such foolishness can provide a bit of comic relief amidst all the analysis, etc.

Dec-09-15  nilanjanasm: Magnus' 23... Bd7 was a blunder. Carlsen suggested 23... Nxd4 afterwards. That's it
