  jnpope: The earliest I have is <Paul Morphy>, Maroczy, 1909, pp352-353.

<Paul Morphy. Skizze aus der Schachwelt>, 2nd ed., Lange, 1881, p288, gives Morphy-N.N., but it also gives: New York, 21 October 1857, which may have allowed for Maroczy to give that identification. More research will be needed into the reports of Morphy's activities on 21-Oct-1857 to confirm.
