Aug-21-05  who: According to Fritz there is a real comedy of errors going on here. First, 18...Bd4 (0.00 better is 22...f6 23.Rg3 Bc5 24.Nd3 g6 25.Nf4 Bd6 26.Ne6+ Kg8 27.Rb3 f5 -1.15) Then 24.Rc1 Morphy returns the favor (-1.53 better is 24.Rxb7 Re8 25.Qxe8+ Kxe8 26.Rb8+ Kd7 0.09). But NN is too kind and so returns with 24...c6 (0.50 whereas 24...Bb6 25.Ne5 Qd2 26.Rf1 f6 27.Rf3 -1.53) and finally 29...Re8 loses the game where 29...f6 30.Qd7 Kf7 31.Nd4 Qe5 32.Nxc6 Qxe4 33.Rdc3 Rhe8 34.Rc4 Qe2 35.Qxa7 maintains approximate equality (0.38).

  Stonehenge: <paulmorphy1969>

You mean he played 20. Re1?

In which case ...Bxf2+ wins

Apr-18-21  paulmorphy1969: <Stonehenge> Correct myself, I wrote wrong [In Maroczy's book in the original German version the 20th move is 20.Re1 and the sequel is the same, while in the translation of the English book translated by Robert Sherwood the 20th move is correctly reported Rc1.Definitely a misprint
