Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-18-14  paramount: Foucaluts Pendulum is a novel by Umberto Eco.

I have read it, it a good book but at least you need to sweat your brain a little bit to fully understand the novel. I can say the novel is "esoteric".

Jun-18-14  Petalsian: Foucault's Pendulum is also the name of the experiment that proved the rotation of the earth
Jun-18-14  Robert Samuels: 23.? would be quite a nice puzzle position.
Jun-18-14  jahhaj: 'Foucault's Pendulum' is one of the most boring books I have ever read. I only finished because I was on holiday and had nothing else to read.
Jun-18-14  jahhaj: IIRC it starts with a teaser, describing the circumstances of a man who is about to die. I had to read 900 odd pages to find out how he got himself into that situation. It wasn't worth finding out.
Jun-18-14  ASchultz: "The X-Terminator" could work, too.

Jun-18-14  Castleinthesky: I never knew Foucault was a swinger.
Jun-18-14  kevin86: This game did not go back and forth (or forth and back). After the lethal fork, black game was opened like a rusty can and he was a goner.

The earth goes around and around... then how come do we record a SUNRISE?

Jun-18-14  Marmot PFL: <I never knew Foucault was a swinger.>

Very active in the SF gay scene. First public figure in France to die of AIDS according to Wikipedia.

Jun-18-14  mrsaturdaypants: Three distinct Foucaults here: the one who did the experiment with the pendelum, the historian who died of AIDS, and the chess player.

Domdaniel: <jahhaj> -- <'Foucault's Pendulum' is one of the most boring books I have ever read. >

It's one of the best that I've read. And I've read a lot of books.

Takes all sorts, I suppose.

Umberto Eco bought me a drink once. An Irish whiskey, as I recall -- Jameson's. A very interesting man.

Domdaniel: Foucault -- the French philosopher and historian, author of 'Archaeology of Knowledge' and 'History of Sexuality' -- once wrote: "I am not the only one who writes in order to have no face".
Jun-18-14  drpoundsign: THAT was Eco?? I'm struggling through "Queen Loana". Stream of consciousness narration but kind of interesting.

Domdaniel: <drpoundsign> Eco's fiction is always interesting, though I don't think the later novels are quite as good as 'The Name of the Rose' or 'Foucault's Pendulum'.
Jun-18-14  morfishine: 14...Be6 was the fatal error. After 14...Bg6, Black is fine
Jun-18-14  Rookiepawn: The French philosopher was another Foucault, Michel; kind of a swinger himself. The pendulum refers to Léon Foucault.
