  tpstar: Double fianchetto openings are a tad slow for the second player and give White a free hand. This game became a Modern Benoni complete with 11 ... b5, but a Knight on e4 instead of c4. Not 13 ... Bxb2?? 14. Rb1 Qb6 15. Qc2, but 13 ... Nc8 is such a passive way to defend d6. I was going to suggest 15 ... c4 but then 16. Bh6!? cxb3 17. Bxg7 Kxg7 18. Qd4+ Kg8 19. Nf6+ Kh8 20. Ng5, or 18 ... f6 19. Neg5 Kg8 20. Ne6 Qb6 21. Qh4 are interesting, versus the safe 16. Bd1 Qb6 17. Rb1. Black should have tried 19 ... Bd3 20. Rc7 Bxe4 21. Rxe4 Na6 & 22 ... Nc5 with some play. In the end Black loses a piece after 22 ... Kg8 23. Nxf8 Bf5 24. Re8 h5 25. Ne6+ Kh7 26. Rcxc8 fxe6 27. Rxb8, but only the exchange after 22 ... Kf6 23. Nxf8 Bf5 or only a Pawn after 22 ... Kf6 23. Rxe4!? Rh8 (23 ... fxe6? 24. Rf4+) 24. Rf4+ Ke5 25. Rfxf7.

Jun-30-09  WhiteRook48: so at best one should fianchetto only one bishop?
