  keypusher: In the 1894 match Lasker had played 6. Bc4; in the 1892 match Chigorin had preferred 6. Bg5. After 6. dxe5 dxe5 7. Bg5, ...f6 was practically forced.

In the game, Lasker missed the immediately crushing 20. Qg3, and if 20....Bxd1 21. Qg6+ Kd8 22. Nb7+ mates. Black is defenseless: 20....h5 21. Nb7 Qg5+ 22. Kb1 Nb6 23. h4 (or simply 23. Nxe5) Qe7 24. Nbe6+, etc.
