Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-30-13  john barleycorn: This seems to be the stem game of the Meran variation.
Nov-30-13  john barleycorn: <KKDEREK> 24.Rxc3 Bb4 forks both white rooks and whites Bc4 is in the way. White might be at a bigger disadvantage than in the game

Gruenfeld vs Rubinstein, 1924

Teichmann vs Rubinstein, 1923

Nov-25-24  generror: The more famous "Meran" game is the Grünfeld - Rubinstein one -- Grünfeld lost that and decided to use the Meran himself a few rounds later.

However, the Meran Variation in this database is Schlechter vs J Perlis, 1906. Should be called the Ostend Variation but Rubinstein's win created the bigger impression.

Nov-26-24  FM David H. Levin: 39...Kb3 has a point that I found nifty: if 40. a7, then 40...Kxa2 41. a8=Q+ Kb1,

and White has no good defense to the threat 42...c2 followed by 43...c1=Q.
