keypusher: A powerful game by Barlov, topped off by a series of (declined) exchange sacrifices starting around move 30.

Yes, pretty solid game. Obviously taking the exchange would have spelled disaster for Miles. Like I've posted on his page, Barlov is the only GM I've faced in a proper tournament setting with classical time controls. That was roughly around the same time of this game, so I feel slightly vindicated that a legend like Miles also succumbed to him ;)

  keypusher: <areknames> Wow! Cool!

Incidentally, I came across this game because it's in Hoffman and Keener's book on the Czech Benoni. They rightly think that 19....Qe7 was a critical error, but SF doesn't much care for their recommended 19....f5 either. Instead 19....Rb8 seems even.

Fairport Convention, eh? Saw them live twice, just 'bout 40 years ago! Different personnel of course - Simon Nicol was the only remaining member from those early days - but still an incredible band. Sandy Denny was amazing.
