SteinitzLives: Gotta love the priest's patient, faithful and purposeful persistence. He endures so many long periods of being forced to make piece moves in between pawn progress moves: 30-41, 41-57, 57-65, and 65-74.

What all the great endgame writers say about the importance of not being in a hurry for progress in the endgame, reveals its truth when Lombardy gets to finish the long slow pawn journeys, with two finishing, and no doubt satisfying, pawn moves in a row to force the 1-0!

Dec-23-14  RookFile: A good rule is to keep your pieces protecting each other. For example, knight on f4, rook on d5, king defending the knight. Nothing bad is going to happen to you while you grind it out.

Lombardy persevered and in the end Angantysson cracked and blundered into mate. 76..Kg8! holds the draw.

Joshka: One heck of a game by the late great Lombardy. Wonder how long he took calculating the queen sac?
