Oct-05-05  rjsolcruz: this can be compared to a first round knock-out in boxing. tal hardly worked a sweat.
Oct-29-05  Whitehat1963: What's the finish here?
Oct-29-05  ughaibu: If he takes the rook Qe6 mates.
Oct-29-05  Whitehat1963: <ughaibu> Please excuse my chess blindness, but I don't see it. Is it just another couple of moves or more involved?
Oct-29-05  ughaibu: If black replies Kf8 then Qe7, Nf6 and Qh7. If black doesn't reply Kf8 then Qf6 and Ne7.
Nov-02-05  tarry knight: A club player could see RxF5. Tal got lucky here. He was an over rated player any way.

WannaBe: <tarry knight: A club player could see RxF5. Tal got lucky here. He was an over rated player any way.> !?

As David Spade would say in his sketch on SNL: "And you are...???"

Jul-03-11  DrMAL: <WannaBe:> I think <tarry knight> said something about being an overrated club player LOL.

Tal steadily builds up advantage, starts a great combination and his opponent collapses under pressure. Exemplary game!

Jul-03-11  swr: As far as I can tell there is no mate. I think White simply ends up a piece ahead after 28. Qe6+ where any King move loses the rook, e.g.:

28...Kf8 29. Qe7+
28...Kg7 29. Qf6+
28...Kh8 29. Qf6+

Jul-03-11  DrMAL: After 27.Rxf5 the only way to avoid forced mate is 27...Qd1+ 28.Kh2 Qxd5 29.Qxd5+ Rxd5 30.Rxd5 where, yes, black is "only" down a rook so far...

Every page has its comedian, and you just won the palm here.

Dec-31-14  eyalbd: Nice tactics after 25..♖e8 (instead of ♕a4). The queen can't move due to a back rank mate. The only way to avoid mate or material loss is 26. ♖xg6+! hxg6 27. ♘f6+ ♔g7 28. ♘xd7+ ♖xe5 29. ♘xe5 and white is a pawn up in a N vs N endgame.

If a club player could see Rxf5, then does that it mean it's going to become a future POTD?

perfidious: Probably, but which day of the week??
Jun-04-16  JohnBoy: <tarry blight>'s <A club player could see RxF5.> is correct. What he misses is that the game as a whole is beautiful. Tal set up the final nail-in-the-coffin by playing like the god he was.
Jun-04-16  RookFile: I think 17. c5 was a neat idea, weakening e5

Alex Schindler: My two favorite players! Kupreichik not at his best, clearly. Spassky did better with his dragon and Nh6 against the Maroczy...
