Kibitzer's Corner
May-01-18  WorstPlayerEver: Interesting game. Compared to other lines Nbd7 is out of question for the time being.

J A Paiva Moreira vs E Roche Peris, 1998

11. Nh2 #dia1

It's kind of ironic; Tarrasch apparently did not expect the strong 11. Nh2 and played a lesser move: 11... Kh8 12. Be2 Ng3 13. Rxf4 Qe7 and now 14. Bd3 #dia2 was better.

It was a tough decision, 14... Bh6 seems dangerous. But White has a clever reply:

14. Bd3 Bh6 15. Rf3 Bxc1 16. Qxc1 Rg8 17. Qf4 Qg5 18. Qxg5 Rxg5 19. Nc3 f5 20. Re1 Bd7 21. Kf2 Nh5 22. Re5 #dia3

11. Nh2 Kh8 12. Be2 Ng3 13. Rxf4 Qe7 14. Bd3 Nd7 and White is a pawn up.

Stockfish 9 comes up with the patzer move (11. Nh2) Bf5 which leads to a draw after 12. Nf3 Qf6 13. Ne5 Qh6 Bd3 #dia4

But wait...!! Isn't there some kind of hypermodern approach here for Black???

May-02-18  WorstPlayerEver: PS Corr: 11. Nh2 Bf5 12. Nf3 Qf6 13. Ne5 Qh6 14. Bd3 (#dia4) and now 14... Bg6 seems interesting. SF9 kept suggesting 14... Bxd3 15. Qxd3 Na6

-14 Bd3 Bg6 15. Qg4 #dia5

SF first did not see much in this position for Black. Although White has a virgin queenside, they have 5 active pieces, Black has only four. Pawn f4 seems to have no future. Though Black has the initiative:

15... Bxd3 16. Nxd3 Qg6 17. Qxg6 hxg6 18. c3 g5 #dia6, Queens are traded, but the position still looks sharp and dangerous for White.

So far the update of this variation :)
