Jan-05-05 | | PinkPanther: Dude, I'm getting a piece of the action for Corus. |
|
Jan-05-05 | | ajit: <Cu8sfan>I read your profile. I like you!:-) |
|
Jan-05-05 | | Hanada: Ok, I'd like to get in on the action also. Are the match-ups for Corus posted anywhere? Thanks |
|
Jan-05-05 | | cade: I think the total score from all round method is best too, average score just leads to manipulation. Also i am interested in the first round match-ups for Corus so i can at least leave my prediction here if chessgames.com doesnt get the corus page up in time. |
|
Jan-05-05 | | rueflow: I don't think the match-ups are announced yet. However, the participants are at www.coruschess.com. |
|
Jan-06-05 | | VishyFan: <yoozum> Korchnoi is not gaining/losing any ELO from this tournament, his RP is exactly the same his Oct-Dec 2004 rating |

 | | cu8sfan: <iron maiden / rueflow> Thanks for your help. Yes, Corus is next. It will start on January 14th and ends on the 30th. As soon as the lots are drawn you can post predictions for all rounds in the The Kibitzer's Café or on the Corus site (yet to be created). Please note that I added rule 12 to my User Profile: cu8sfan. |

Jan-06-05 | | percyblakeney: Drammen International was won by Mateusz Bartel with eight wins in nine games. There were a few 2500 GM:s in the field, so maybe he's forgotten this game by now:
Radjabov vs M Bartel, 2004
Tournament table: http://www.myart.no/sjakk/dr04/ind/... |
|
Jan-06-05 | | percyblakeney: In the above mentioned tournament Victor Mikhalevski was leading before the last round, where he drew after playing six moves... ChessBase doubt Lie's final GM norm, but I suppose they are wrong:
"We are told that Lie has made his final GM norm, though that would not be what our cross table suggests." http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... |
|
Jan-06-05 | | Maroczy: Looks like Bartel had a good tournament. I see Radjabov is whining about his alleged treatment by Kasparov at the Chessbase site. Cry me a river. |
|
Jan-06-05 | | yoozum: <Korchnoi is not gaining/losing any ELO from this tournament, his RP is exactly the same his Oct-Dec 2004 rating > I guess he can't lose much with a -1 TPR. |
|
Jan-06-05 | | firebyrd: <ChessBase doubt Lie's final GM norm> They have calculated the average rating of the tournament to be 2599 - which is only slightly wrong as it is 2599.8 which rounds to 2600, and which makes no difference, for against a rating average of 2600 Lie would still need 5 points, and only against 2601 and higher would 4.5 be enough. However Lie did not play against himself - and the rating average of his opponents was 2614, which should be sufficient for the norm. |
|
Jan-06-05 | | percyblakeney: <firebyrd> You're right, that must be what they missed at ChessBase. |
|
Jan-06-05 | | acirce: What remains is to get a 2500 rating, I guess. If my calculations are correct he gains 16.2 in Drammen, which added to his current 2481 is still only 2497. |
|
Jan-06-05 | | azaris: <acirce> I get the same from the FIDE calculator, but I am suspicious of Chessbase's ratings. They only give him 2474 whereas FIDE gives 2481. Accordinly they probably have incorrect ratings for the other players, and therefore the avg rating of his opponents is incorrect. |
|
Jan-06-05 | | acirce: Well, Chessbase uses the October ratings, since the tournament started before January. I *think* that it's the old ratings that are used for calculations. It was the same with Kramnik-Leko where the first games were played before the October list. It was the July ratings - 2770 and 2741 - that were used to calculate their rating changes, and that for all 14 games, otherwise Kramnik would have lost fewer points and Leko of course gained fewer too. |
|
Jan-07-05 | | firebyrd: http://www.fide.com/official/handbo... 1.46b The Rating List in effect at the start of the tournament shall be used. |
|
Jan-10-05 | | jdb22601: Luke McShane good showing in this tournament. He had some bad positions like against Stefanova but managed to get the pts. |
|
Jan-13-05 | | awfulhangover: Kjetil Lie is NOT a GM yet. I asked him on ICC, and he confirmed that needs a few more ELO-points. |

 | | lostemperor: <cu8sfan> I know it may not mean much anymore now and it may seem like bragging but I would have beaten the Drawer if I have participated in the first two rounds. I would have scored 7 points at least! 4 points in the first round (like acirce) and 3 in the 2nd round (my respect for percyblakeney had 5/5 in the second). For what its worth. Of course there was little chance to beat the drawer anymore after I "lost" 7 points. Well at least I beat the Drawer on average points (with my bad predictions:)! This was a tough tournament. |

 | | cu8sfan: For the prediction contest I have decided to use the <firebyrd> scoring system with one adaption. After a tournament points will be scored as follows: Award accumulated points for being:
- top 50%
- top 30%
- top 20%
- top 10%
- winner
- single winner
The percentages are taken from the number of participants <that have played for more than one round>. For this tournament this gives us a new standing:
participants with more than 1 round: 15
10% = 2
20% = 3
30% = 5
50% = 8
1. acirce (6)
2. percyblakeney (4)
3. cu8sfan (3)
4. iron maiden, lostemperor (2)
6. me to play, yoozum, Pawsome (1)
Please note that no one lost any points due to the new scoring system. |
|
Jan-27-05 | | Phoenix: This seems like a good scoring system. I hope it works well. |
|
Feb-22-05 | | aw1988: What an exciting tournament! |
