 | | Domdaniel: <Octavia> Yep, Wolfgang Heidenfeld was an excellent writer and an underrated player - he won both the Irish and South African championships several times in the 1950s and 60s, yet never made the IM title. His other main book - Lacking the Master Touch - makes light of this 'failure', but it must have hurt. There were far fewer opportunities for norms in those days. Ironically, his son Mark Heidenfeld is an IM. I don't think he's a significantly stronger player than his father was. The 'Draw' book, BTW, might be more readily available in German, as <Grosse Remispartien>. But I'd also expect an English-language copy to surface somewhere, sooner or later. |
