Nov-22-06 | | Akireta: It's funny... I seem to recall Tal writing somewhere that "to play for a draw with the white pieces is a crime against chess" ho hum. |
Nov-22-06 | | Rolfo: <Akireta> What happend to Mamedyarov second day, nobody knows. He surely fought for a win, but lost |

Nov-22-06 | | technical draw: Tks for that link Wannabe, but I prefer coffee over tea. (picture above) |

 | | WannaBe: I was going to follow the trend and make another (funny) post about the picture above the coffee one, but then I decided not to. |
Nov-22-06 | | JYMMI: <technical draw> Very funny, but unless you're talking about the beverage I can't agree with you... ;-) |
Nov-22-06 | | technical draw: <JYMMI> This will explain: I am 57 yrs old! |
Nov-22-06 | | Ragh: <technical draw> what's the secret behind the huge chessbucks number
? |

 | | WannaBe: <Ragh> Win. |
Nov-23-06 | | technical draw: <Ragh> If you are refering to my negative sum the reason is easy. I'm from the planet Bizarro. To us losing is winning so I'm really in first place and by a lot. |
Nov-23-06 | | Ragh: <technical draw> It does take quite an effort to maintain the numero uno position at the bottom of the list. :) |
Nov-23-06 | | notyetagm: Are we ever going to see any PGNs for the blitz tourney? |
Nov-23-06 | | adviser: Anyway, who won the tourny? |
Nov-24-06 | | setebos: Anand won, before he made a move. They are all scared of him :) |
Nov-24-06 | | Ragh: <setebos: Anand won, before he made a move. They are all scared of him :)> Why is he scaring people away?? |
Nov-24-06 | | technical draw: <Ragh> Yes, it does. Few people realize how hard it is to lose consistently. I have put a lot of effort in maintaining my status as worst bettor so I hope Kramnik/Fritz doesn't ruin it. |
Dec-02-06 | | notyetagm: Does anyone know what the ELO changes are for the Tal Memorial? Thanks.
Dec-04-06 | | samsal27: <Have a qualifying tournament and some toprated invitees (i.e. an Open prior to the main event, qualifying 8 players, combined with some 8 top rated invitees) The 16 players will be randomly selected into two groups and play a 7-round round robin and the winners of each pool face eachother in a final match of 2-4 games.> Great idea! |
Dec-07-06 | | Rolfo: <notyetagm> rating changes after Tal: Leko +8, Pono +14, Aronian +8, Gelfand +4, Mame 0, Grischuk +3, Svidler -4, Shirov -9, Carlsen -6, Moro -18 |

Jun-16-07 | | notyetagm: Does anyone know the <time control> used in the <Tal Memorial Blitz> tournament? Was it <3 2> or <5 1>? Thanks.

Jun-16-07 | | malthrope: <notyetagm: Does anyone know the <time control> used in the <Tal Memorial Blitz> tournament? Was it <3 2> or <5 1>? Thanks.> I had to look it up in the topic I started over at ChessNinja... See 'Tal Memorial Super BLITZ Event 06' // http://www.chessninja.com/cgi-bin/u... It was 5 minutes/2 seconds! I tried to find the info again but got totally lost in nostalgia looking over all the great old pics of Tal found while searching for it... So, I'll just assume until proven otherwise, that I got it *right* the first time! :-) Regards, - Mal PS: BTW - One of our newest CG.com members - Maxim Dlugy - was playing in the qualifiers for the 'Tal Blitz Cup' and I'm sure Max could easily verify this... ;-) |

Jul-16-07 | | iron maiden: Kramnik will be playing in this year's Tal Memorial according to the events list on his website, http://www.kramnik.com/. It apparently will be another ten-player round robin, category 20, from November 12-26, and a blitz tournament like last year's will follow. |
