I added your last entry on the <6th American Congress> to the mirror now: Game Collection: WCC: OVERALL INTRODUCTION We have it all safe and sound now, to be used for other purposes as well. On that topic, I'm going to wait on mirroring <Suenteus Po's> fine collection, since there are other projects to finish first. |

Nov-11-14 | | Karpova: Game Collection: WCC: Steinitz-Chigorin 1889 I want to add that the match is discussed on pp. 162-165 (then follow the annotated games) of Wilhelm Steinitz, 'The Modern Chess Instructor', Part I, 1889. Addendum:
6th American Chess Congress: <At the end of the tournament there was a tie between M. Tschigorin, of St. Petersburg, and Herr Max Weiss, of Vienna. Both these masters expressed a desire not to be compelled to play a championship match, as provided by the rules, and as there was no other challenge for the title and the prizes offered for the purpose, the Committee decided that this contest should not take place.> Source: Wilhelm Steinitz, 'The Book of the Sixth American Chess Congress', New York, 1891, p. xxiii (more on the rules for the match can be found on the preceding pages) |

Dec-01-14 | | Karpova: On Game Collection: WCC: Alekhine-Bogoljubov 1934 Bogoljubov prepared for the match by playing a tournament in Bayreuth, Germany (9.5/10 ahead of E. Hahn with 9.0 points). He then played a serious 15-games match against Hans Mueller, scoring +7 -3 =5. Source: Wiener Schachzeitung, May 1934, p. 141. To let you know, we are also researching and adding to your intro for Game Collection: Wijk aan Zee Hoogovens 1968. We haven't finished this research yet either.> I didn't realize that WAZ '68 was part of the WCC cycle. No wonder the intro needs work.... |

 | | offramp: I am pleased with the decision to ESCHEW (q.v.) apostrophes in the names of <Candidates> matches. I always find apostrophes tiresome (in English), and the sensible idea is to avoid them altogether. In that way you can never be wrong. The grammar anyway makes sense; a Candidates Match is a match between two candidates. There does not need to be possession. |

My dear <offramp>
Thanks so much for your encouragement. We really appreciate it, believe me. With regard to the <TI> zonals and candidates collections, that is the work of <Tabanus, Paint My Dragon, and Zanzibar>. |

 | | offramp: You are all very welcome! I really like seemingly minor sentences such as this:
<The Budapest Candidates (1950) tournament and the Amsterdam Candidates (1956) tournament were the previous and next qualification events in the FIDE cycle>...
All hyperlinked in the original, of course. It looks effortless, but was obviously time-consuming for someone. It adds to my enjoyment of the chessgames site enormously! |

<The Budapest Candidates (1950) tournament and the Amsterdam Candidates (1956) tournament were the previous and next qualification events in the FIDE cycle> This feature, like so much else in the recent <TI> events, was inaugurated by <Tabanus>. He also did the hard work to dig up the history of FIDE qualifying events from reliable, reputable sources. There is good reason why he was voted "Best Historian" at the last Caissar Awards. |

Thank you very much for your contribution(s)! We hope that you will support us in the future, also. For sure, you have helped us quite a lot already. The draft in question is already finished and was send away, though. It is still a valuable source and good overview of the match conditions! |

<The Honorable Member From Ohio> I had been thinking the same thing for a long time. This forum is a permanent "legacy Cg.com forum" as you know. What you may not know is that I long ago forgot the password. Luckily, <Big Crawdaddy> has the password and also I am sure that <Annie> has access to the logs, so she can find it as well. This has also facilitated her activities in the timber industry, as you might suspect. There is a ton of unfinished work sitting in here that is available for any and all to convert for a series of touchdowns, if they'd care to put the work in. I'm currently knee deep in <Latvian chess history> these days, and I seem to be sinking deeper by the minute. I won't be working on this project again any time in the near future. I think you guys should involve <Annie> in this conversation. She's got her finger on the pulse of all the current historical activity at the moment. Which is very good for the history editors. |

<The Humorous Anteater> "throw another log on the fire for me" is a David Bowie lyric. I am assuming you wanted to hear the song, so I arranged a live performance of it! You'll thank me later.
