bystander
Member since Feb-23-07 · Last seen Jul-06-17
I live in the Netherlands. During secondary school and university I played a lot of chess (at a lower clublevel) but quit while persuing a career. After many years chessgames.com inspired me to catch up with playing and enjoying chess again.

   Aug-24-14 P H Clarke vs Petrosian, 1958 (replies)

bystander: 23 g4? Whith 23 f4 g4 (after any other move white can open the f-file) 24 h4 white can close his kingside.

   Aug-24-14 B Bok vs Rapport, 2014 (replies)

bystander: Very nice combination from Black after 22) Ba7-c5. But white was struggeling already for a while. Maybe 15 or 16 f3 would have give him more changes for counterplay?

   Aug-08-14 Frits Roessel

bystander: He won the first Dutch open in 1955!

   Aug-07-14 David Klein (replies)

bystander: According to the KNSB-website (Dutch chess federation) David Klein has 3 GM norms and the KNSB states he passed the 2.500 ELO rating this summer, so they expect him to get his GM title soon.

   Aug-03-14 Vyacheslav Ikonnikov

bystander: Viacheslav Ikonnikov won the open Dutch Championship 2014! He could not remember how many times he participated, but thought it would be at least 10 times. (source KNSB website, newsitem on 31-07-2014). I cannot easely check how many times you really partcipated, but ...

   Aug-03-14 Ad Kleijberg

bystander: The FIDE-ratinglist marked this player as inactive. According to a Dutch chess blog, Ad Kleiberg was a founder and active player for the chessclub "Dubbelschaak". In 2008 (at the age of 48!) he emigrated to the USA to become a senior software developer. (source: ...

   Aug-03-14 Jorden van Foreest (replies)

bystander: Jorden van Foreest achieved his third masternorm. He scored 6 out of 9 in Vaugany, France. Because he already met the rating requirements of the FIDE, he is expected to get the title soon. (Source: KNSB-website, announcement dated 21-07-2014)

   Jul-29-14 Y Visser vs A Kleijberg, 1985

bystander: After 9) h3 black gets a strong attack (zie previous posts). What about 9) Ne4x de4x 10) Qd4? The pin of the queen has gone and if black plays 9)...Qd4x then 10) Nd4x and if black plays 9)...ed4x then white plays 10) Qg4x. Although I think black has still an advantage, this ...

   Jul-19-14 Winawer vs C Schmid, 1881

bystander: I do not like 9)..N5 but could not find anyting better myself. My computer recommands 9).. Qd7 instead (if Ne5 then Qd8). Probably to preplare for Be7 and 0-0 and to avoid a pin on the e-file (after Re1) so that f6 still is possible.

Jul-19-14 Erik van den Doel (replies)

bystander: Erik van den Doel won the 4th SPA tournement in Amsterdam, 8,5 out of 9. Well organised tournement at the Science Park (University of Amsterdam but I am not sure which of the two universities), a few tramtops away from the Dutch Championship 2014 (Manor hotel). I joined the SPA ...
