I introduced chess to Spain in the ninth century, and from there it spread to most of Europe.

   May-30-22 F Manca vs F Braga, 1992
Ziryab: Terrific game! The final combination is the very first example in Yakov Neishtadt, <Improve You Chess Tactics> (2011). That led me here.
   May-25-22 Greco vs NN, 1620
Ziryab: I played this game OTB in a blitz tourney last week. I have played it more than once online, as well as several variations. Although I'm more inclined to play 10.Ba3 these days.
May-04-22 Saemisch vs Spielmann, 1922 (replies)
Ziryab: The position after 38.Rxg4 appears in Reuben Fine, Basic Chess Endings without a diagram. Is there anything to learn from such a position?
   Apr-28-22 Hebden vs D A Wood, 1994
Ziryab: 47…g6 also draws, although it presents more challenges for Black than after 47…Kg6.
   Apr-27-22 Capablanca vs Yates, 1930
Ziryab: Dvoretsky mentions analysis by Kopaev. Where can I find this analysis?
   Mar-31-22 Domenico
Ziryab: Giovanni Domenico may have preceded Alessandro Salvio with the classic bishop sacrifice on h7. A game fragment with Bxh7+ is credited to him in the Doazan MS (a manuscript that has been lost, but which was copied in part by von der Lasa and others in the nineteenth century).
   Mar-29-22 Alessandro Salvio
Ziryab: Greco’s famous sacrifice first appears not in Greco’s writings, but in Salvio’s 1604 book.
   Feb-26-22 Tal vs Timman, 1988
Ziryab: What is wrong with 17…Rc8 instead of 17…a5?
   Feb-18-22 Stoltz vs Kashdan, 1928
Ziryab: The position after 28.axb3 appears in Ludek Pachman, Modern Chess Strategy (25) as an example of the superiority of the bishop. [DIAGRAM] Playing this with Stockfish, I'm not convinced that Black's advantage is clearly winning.
   Feb-01-22 Flohr vs Petrosian, 1950
Ziryab: When you see a two digit number after a title, do you assume it is a typo? See <Chicago Manual of Style>.
