I love chess, but have no pretensions about how good I am. My favorite players are Fischer, Spassky, Nezhmetdinov, Tal, and Larry Christiansen. I used to take lessons from Irina Krush; now my trainer is Yelena Dembo. I admire them both and recommend them highly!!!

spasskey69: They are married. Their phone voicemail message tells you that you've reached their home. They are also two of the finest people you'll ever want to know.

spasskey69: Fischer did everything that he accomplished on his own. No computers. No Botvinnik school. No legions of strong assistants to come up with new moves for him. Bobby did it himself...solo. No other player has as strong a claim to be the Greatest Ever. Morphy, Capa, Kasparov: ...

spasskey69: i asked an Armenia lady I know how to pronouice her name: it is MMM-Kart-chian

   Mar-31-09 G Sargissian vs L Mkrtchian, 2003

spasskey69: It's kind of interesting: Lilit takes with the bishop on c5 rather than the pawn. So instead of the usual Tartakower "hanging pawns," she gets an isolated d-pawn, which is how I've seen her play as Black in some of her French Defense games.

spasskey69: Does anyone know how Nezhmetdinov developed his repertoire. Bobby, for instance, basically adopted Boleslavky's. The reason I ask is, I am studying the Scotch Game with my teacher and, as Nezhmetdinov is one of my idols, I looked up whether or not her had ever played that ...

   Jan-14-09 R Nezhmetdinov vs O Chernikov, 1962 (replies)

spasskey69: My trainer, IM Yelena Dembo, in her magnificent first book THE VERY UNUSUAL BOOK ABOUT CHESS, drew my attention to this game. It is now my favorite -- very similar to my previous favorite, Petrosian-Spassky (10) 1966.

   Jan-05-09 Spassky vs G Lane, 1979

spasskey69: I am amazed at Boris's record with this opening. This is his only loss, and that in a less-than-serious game! He ought to write a book on it!

   Jan-02-09 Viktor Korchnoi (replies)

spasskey69: Gotta question Boris's comment abouit Korchnoi being impervious to distractions! If memory serves, he was distracted by Petrosian's leg jiggling as well as Spassky's analyzing the games of their bitter 1977 Candidate's Final from his relaxation area. Korchnoi is a great, great ...

   Nov-23-08 J Broekmeulen vs P Oberweis, 2007

spasskey69: Nafisa-Krush Dresden 2008 followed this game up to 14. Rg1. Irina went on to win.
