I live in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. I have been studying chess for many years but still consider myself a novice. I am seeking strategy information. I have difficulty looking ahead.

jimmyjimmy: I enjoyed the poem quoted earlier by "Once." It is actually a song by Simon & Garfunkel and the appropriate title of their boxed-set compilation. They are indeed old friends. Paul Simon frequently referred to himself as a poet rather than a musician.

   Sep-20-10 J Alfred vs P Walsh, 2005 (replies)

jimmyjimmy: This is the easiest I have ever seen. I got it right in just about three seconds. I like these. They build confidence.

   Sep-06-10 L A Tan vs Mecking, 1976 (replies)

jimmyjimmy: I think I am beconing even more chess-illiterate as the years go by. I spent an hour trying to get this right and never did.

Aug-25-10 K Lie vs Bu Xiangzhi, 2008 (replies)

jimmyjimmy: I didn't notice that if black captured the knight, it would allow white to promote his pawn. Black has no choice but to resign. I missed this one.

   Aug-23-10 Navara vs Z Ruzicka, 1997 (replies)

jimmyjimmy: I didn't get it right. I am in a slump again.

   Aug-18-10 R Grau vs Pilnik, 1938 (replies)

jimmyjimmy: I had to travel for my job last night so I didn't get to see the answers for yesterday's quiz. I bombed out today. I had to travel a lot and I couldn't concentrate. How do I see the kibitz comments from yesterday? I want you to know my hometown of Saint Louis,Missouri,USA has ...

   Aug-17-10 C Poulsen vs R Grau, 1937 (replies)

jimmyjimmy: I think of myself as a novice but I thought this was an easy puzzle. I solved it in approximately 60 seconds...but my answer is totally different. Tell me why my solution is not plausible. I have checked and rechecked but I still think it is a quicker mate: 23...Bg4+ 24.Ke1 Rc1#

   Aug-16-10 Taimanov vs R Persitz, 1955 (replies)

jimmyjimmy: I answered correctly quickly but I seldom do that on any other day of the week.

   Jul-27-10 P Goluch vs N Paikidze, 2010 (replies)

jimmyjimmy: I have correctly answered two in a row. That is unusual for me. Someone said black is played by a woman. That is an odd name for a lady. I think I would definitely change it to Naomi, or anything similar. It is not unlike Johnny Cash singing about "A Boy Named Sue."

Jul-26-10 Iturrizaga Bonelli vs V Kulakov, 2008 (replies)

jimmyjimmy: I love Mondays! The Monday puzzles rebuild my confidence after my confidence comes crashing down with a thud most other days. I got this right in about a minute. I usually struggle for a long time.
