Not really a chess player, I'm quite good at backgammon though. And quite fond of music too, the avatar is a tribute to the label that brought Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters to vinyl, as well as R'n'R greats Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley.

(Avatar update: Having chosen not to continue my premium membership, I am thrilled to see that my old avatar has been put to use by someone who actually seems to know a thing or two about chess - in addition to having good taste in music. May it serve you well, User: Sally Simpson)

firebyrd: <jphamlore: Bronstein vs Botvinnik, 1951 ... In the comments discussing this game there are claims Bronstein accidentally touched the King.> That would not force a king move, at least not with today's rules which says that a piece move is required: <if the player ...

firebyrd: <Oh yeah, <US> praise Carlsen for not continuing on with a bare Knight> Actually one cannot continue with a bare knight. If the position cannot result in checkmate the game ends immediately. Which is completely different from the 3-repetition and 50-move rules where the

firebyrd: <The fact that it wins a piece?> Well that would probably do it then. Not that I see how now, but I will study it more closely later. Thx.

firebyrd: <They almost always pick one of the leaders, but this is the obvious choice.> It is, as it features not only one, but two, of the current leaders.

firebyrd: <mkrk17: Aronian, Kramnik and Svidler are too tired from the candidates.> More so than Gelfand? In that case even more kudos to Boris for being the oldest player and still being the freshest after a hard tournament.

firebyrd: <zx82: Carlsen gave comments on that question when asked in the PC. He said 24 matches would be ok for him.> Only after he had stated that with todays preparation and added pressure a 24-game match would be "last man standing" - eg endurance would be more important than chess
