I am an expert at all things gambling. Chess excluded.

After about 2 years of playing chess casually, I have finally joined the USCF and started playing for points. Being a member of the Nintendo generation, I take points very seriously; getting enough of them allows me to enter my name on the score board, or even get a "1UP".

I'm not a very good chess player, but I am getting better every day. Most of my comments online involve either "I missed this puzzle..." or "Can you tell me more about..." and I am ever grateful for the help this community has given me.

By help, mostly I mean bad puns.

c o r e: Brilliant interference. I didn't get it at all. But I'll add it to my mental Rolodex of tactics. :D

c o r e: The first move of the puzzle was pretty obvious, but careful play is still required to convert the gained material into a win. Passed pawns and back rank weakness make a dangerous combination.

c o r e: I didn't get this one. I just sorta looked at it and drooled. Brilliant play.

c o r e: Saw it right away today. :) That knight on g4 is a real workhorse! (Yeah, I said it.) It's able to prevent ...Qxe5, which would kill white's attack, and it controls the square of promotion on d1. If today's moves are taken out of order, moving the knight to e3 early loses control ...

c o r e: Kh7 was my first choice, but I don't see the draw. Back to the bottle! Oops! I meant "drawing board".

c o r e: I was looking at 21.Rxf7 Kxf7 22.Qe6+ Ke8 23.Bb6 (I didn't see b4) Qd6 24.Bxh5, and black is finished. I think I did pretty good today.

c o r e: "Piety requires that we honor truth above our friends."- Aristotle But there's no sensible conflict possible when analyzing chess. Everything is there, to be seen by whoever has eyes to see it. It's commonly accepted that Fritz has a mighty good eye for chess. The game of chess is ...

c o r e: I'm sober right now. I have not been drinking any whiskey, rum, beer, or any liquors. I did not go to several bars all over Las Vegas tonight. I did not sprain my ankle. Ouch.

c o r e: Since it's the opening of the day, I'll have to comment here: I love playing the Ponziani during casual games on breaks at work. It never fails to create wild open positions!

c o r e: Happy birthday <Travis Bickle>. Also, the Bears will get more mileage from Cutler than would the Lions.
