I am a middle aged man who took up chess a little later than he should have. I have been playing now for six years and slowly improving. My home town is Oban, on the west coast of Scotland.

Oct-02-06 Kramnik - Topalov World Championship Match (2006) (replies)

Skoosh: I think that the vast majority of those who care about, and are involved in chess (outside the Topalov camp), would be very disappointed if Kramnik were not to win the Championship. The more I hear about this man Topalov, the less I like. I hope Vladi holds his nerve and shows ...

Sep-29-06 Kramnik vs Topalov, 2006 (replies)

Skoosh: As I intimated previously; would Topalov's team have submitted a complaint like this if their man was 3-1 up? Kramnik is absolutely right to stand by his guns and insist that contractually agreed conditions be maintained. He should (as I think he is) insist that Game 5 be ...

Sep-27-06 Topalov vs Kramnik, 2006 (replies)

Skoosh: After loosing the first two games, all the pressure is on Topalov. We have now gone four games and the score is 3 to 1 in Kramnik's favour. All you have to do to see what Kramnik is capable of is to look at the Championship game with Kasparov. He has a two point lead and it will take

Sep-01-06 The World vs A Nickel, 2006 (replies)

Skoosh: As I've said before, after 1...c5, we have to stick to well known Sicilian lines. This is a GM at the other side of the board and he will not be fazed by any unorthodox move made by white. I have voted for 3.d4 purely because it is the main line move for white in this opening.

   Aug-24-06 F Jackson vs M Younus, 2006

Skoosh: What a really good attack and a fine finish.

   Aug-20-06 J Parker vs J Rowson, 2006 (replies)

Skoosh: Well done Jonathan! A hat-trick of British Championship wins. Scotland is proud of you.

Aug-05-06 Alekhine vs NN, 1915 (replies)

Skoosh: I enjoyed going through it; fabricated or not!

Feb-25-06 Stanishevsky vs Nikonov, 1981 (replies)

Skoosh: Who found this game? I see there's only one entry for both players in the database. Maybe this is the only game of chess both of them played!!! If it is, I'm giving up!

   Jan-22-05 Tal vs T Zeids, 1952 (replies)

Skoosh: As an average club player, I really find it difficult to understand the thinking behind some of the moves in this game. There is definitely something in this that is beyond my comprehension. I guess that's why I am the player I am! I think Tal was a genius and it doesn't matter how ...

Dec-24-04 Tal vs Sveshnikov, 1988 (replies)

Skoosh: Am I missing something here? Why did Sveshnikov weaken his pawn protection around his King with 15...h6 and 16...g5? Surely chasing the Bishop away wasn't that important. Against someone like Tal, it looks like suicide!
