   Sep-23-18 Caruana vs Carlsen, 2017

Kent Swearingen: In Albanius's line, after 45...Rxg4, not 46. Kxg4, but 46.Rxg7+ Kf8 47.e7+ Ke8 48.Rg8+ Kxe8 49. Rxc8 Bf5 50. Rc5 and Black has nothing better than Rxb4, leaving White up a piece for a pawn. 43... Nxe5? was a blunder, as were several moves moves of both players starting with ...

   Sep-20-17 F Valli vs M Agopov, 2012

Kent Swearingen: I suppose White lost on time, as otherwise the result 0-1 is inexplicable. The position is dead even and they are repeating moves at the end. It would be nice if time wins could be indicated, to remove any doubt about whether the result is correctly recorded.

   Sep-15-17 V Fedoseev vs M Rodshtein, 2017 (replies)

Kent Swearingen: Sorry about putting the wrong move numbers in my earlier post. I thought I was being careful, but ....

   Sep-03-17 Carlsen vs O Balogun, 2017 (replies)

Kent Swearingen: Stockfish says the game see-saws between a small White advantage and near equality for the first 30 moves. Black could have equality by 31...bxa5, followed by putting his Rook on h4. Instead 31...b5 gave White a significant advantage which he never surrendered. The exchange ...

Jul-19-17 Fischer vs Tal, 1970 (replies)

Kent Swearingen: Given his note to 19...b6, it is odd that Fischer said nothing about 18...Nb5. Instead, 18...b6 saves the c pawn, equalizing. Discovered attacks on the a8 Rook are stymied by Bd5.

   Jun-28-17 W Linhart vs T Kriebel, 2013

Kent Swearingen: Given that Black missed the winning idea 65...e6, perhaps White could have hoped for a draw by continuing to play the Bishop to f3 and back to g2. Instead he practically forces 68... e6 with Bh3, and is punished for it.

Jun-06-17 Carlsen vs So, 2017 (replies)

Kent Swearingen: At move 46 Black had 3 legal moves. Stockfish thought it made no difference - all evaluated at 0.00 at a depth of 44.

   Jun-05-17 A Bisguier vs Fischer, 1963 (replies)

Kent Swearingen: The quote from Bisguier does not support this being the Bobby takes a nap game, because this game is not game 45 in MSMG. In both Bisguier games in that book, Fischer played white. The little blurb written by Larry Evans for game 47 in MSMG hints that he thought that game, ...

   Jun-01-17 K Amerika vs D Batkovskyte, 2011 (replies)

Kent Swearingen: Either the score of this game is wrong, or there was something funny going on here. Black hangs a Knight with 15. Nxe5, and White lets her get away with it. The Knight continues to hang for three moves. Later, both sides seem to be trying to find a way to lose, until Black ...

   May-22-17 C van den Berg vs M Ujtelky, 1955

Kent Swearingen: White misses mate in three by 29.Qf8+ Rf8 30. Ng7+ Ke7 31.Rd7#, but implements the same idea, one move slower.
