   Nov-22-13 Magnus Carlsen (replies)

Jonber: They said he would never become a grandmaster. They said he would never win a big tournament. They said he would never reach 2700. They said he would never be in the top ten. They said he would never reach 2800. They said he would never be number one in the world. They ...

Jonber: Not on the July list though, on which he’s predicted to go down a few points.

   Jun-20-08 Hikaru Nakamura (replies)

Jonber: Let me just say as a general comment that I believe ratings are a far better measurement for player strength than nationality.

Jonber: So there were more questions? Ok, must be some sort error in the Flash movie. Not the best advertising for AMD computers. :)

   Jun-18-08 Carlsen vs A Volokitin, 2008 (replies)

Jonber: In the approximate two year interval since these two played each other last (April 2006 to April 2008) Volokitin’s rating has increased 24 points (from 2660 to 2684) while Carlsen’s has increased 119 points (from 2646 to 2765).

Jun-13-08 Smyslov vs Fischer, 1959 (replies)

Jonber: <bananafisher> I don‘t quite know what to say. The variation you give contain what seems to me a couple of blunders and an illegal move (19.Qxg2). I can only assume there must be some sort of misunderstanding and that we’re talking about different positions. I was referring

Jun-13-08 Carlsen vs Shirov, 2008 (replies)

Jonber: < LoveThatJoker> Thank you for your kind compliment but the praise should really go to Percy French, the author of the original. :)

Jan-22-08 Fischer vs Unzicker, 1959 (replies)

Jonber: If we're looking for alternatives to Fischer's 20.g5 I suppose 20.b3 must also be considered. On the surface of thing I wouldn't argue with Fischer's move though, it seems right to me for the reasons stated above. I will have a look at Rybka's variations when time permits and for now
