Greetings fellow slaves of Caissa! I'm an A-ish player in San Luis Obispo, California at the moment.

   Oct-22-05 V Karasev vs K Klaman, 1967 (replies)

Idedalus: I saw 34.Re6 and that 34...Qd8 defends but couldn't see the continuation. Then I considered 34.Rg6 and white doesn't seem to have anything after 34...Rg8. But playing one after the other is a nice idea--a double deflection. 34.Re6 deflects the queen from the f7 square, then 35.Rg6 ...

   Oct-18-05 B Perenyi vs L Eperjesi, 1974 (replies)

Idedalus: <Holden>If 13.Bg6 then 13...cxd4 14.Qxe6+ Qe7 15. Bxf7+ Kd8 and there isn't a clear win. On the other hand, 13...fxg6 is a mistake that allows 14.Nc6 again, although black now gets two minor pieces for the queen instead of the one he would get if he avoids mate after 13.Nc6 ...

Oct-11-05 Sutovsky vs Chandler, 2000 (replies)

Idedalus: <Hoozits> I've had a similar problem lately. I'll find what seems to be a nice, simple, tactical shot but there will be an annoying defensive reply that I've overlooked. One thing that has worked for me is just to say "So what?" anytime I think I'm being clever and do my best

   Oct-07-05 Vadasz vs Adorjan, 1968

Idedalus: Another example of the poor choice 10...Nxc3 instead of 10...Bf5

   Oct-07-05 E Torre vs Gheorghiu, 1972 (replies)

Idedalus: 10...Nxc3 isn't a very good idea. 10...Bf5 seems to offer black much better chances.

   Oct-02-05 Bacrot vs R Kempinski, 2005 (replies)

Idedalus: I think white should have been able to hold the position with his setup after move 31. At least the entry at b3 is shut and black would have to try something else. Black was clearly better though as white doesn't seem to have any good chances for activity.
