Hello people,
My reallife name is Alparslan, I'm 17 years old, I live in Germany, in Bavaria to be exact. I have started to play chess actively in 2007, when I heard that there will be a Chess Club in School again. (It was closed when I was in 5th in 2003)

I'm a very ambitious Chess player, as I've become quite succesful in youth tournaments where I live. I don't have a FIDE Elo yet, my current DWZ (German rating) is 1774. The Chess Club I play for is SC Kitzingen 1905, and I play in our 2nd highest team. (4th is lowest)

I like brave Chess Players, who changed the Chess World with their ideas, and/or played against the zeitgeist of the Chess philosophy of their time. Nimzowitsch, Botvinnik, Tal, Shirov, to name some of them.

Of course I also respect 'the best of the best', like Fischer, Kasparov, Karpov, Ivanchuk but also Morphy, Anderssen, etc.

My favourite game is Kasparov-Topalov (1999 Wijk an Zee), in which Kasparov played a magnificent rook sacrifice and won the game about 15-20 moves later with a Queen vs a Rook up. But thanks to Chessgames I've got to know many other incredible Chess Games, and I hope I will get to observe and analyze many other awsome games.

Gouvaneur: Really? This game literally is of no chess value. White plays like a patzer and swindles a mate. Choosing games as the GOTD just for the sake of a good pun is really unnecessary. There are so many magnificent games played in tournaments daily. Can't be too hard to choose a decent ...

Gouvaneur: Surely, 9...Nd7 looks very risky. 9...Nf6 seems stronger, but 10.f4 asks very uncomfortable questions to Black. For instance 10...fxe4 11.fxe5 dxe5 looks inferior, giving White a strong protected passer on d5. 10...exf4 11.Nxf4 or 11.exf5 Bxf5 12.Nxf4 looks very risky as well with

Gouvaneur: @GlennOliver: Does it really win? 40...Rh1+ 41.Kxh1 a1D+ 42.Kh2 and Black still has to deal with the mate threat on f8. 42...Qg7 43.Rxf8+ would transpose to the game continuation - with Black having two rather useless queens! The alternative would probably be to play 42...Qxg2+ ...

Gouvaneur: Maybe should have started the tactics question with the position after 38.Qg5. I suppose this was declined due to the fact that 38...gxf3+ seems to be quite crushing as well.

Gouvaneur: 4...f5? is known to be refuted. And yes, compared to the King's Gambit, which people claim to be incorrect, 4...f5? really has a clear refutation.

Gouvaneur: Looks awefully similar to Fischer's Nxe3! against Byrne.

   Apr-12-18 G Goldberg vs Bronstein, 1961 (replies)

Gouvaneur: @Honey Blend: Sometimes it makes more sense to choose the simplest win. Here White declared with his last move Kf2 that Black has no constructive plans whatsoever. At any given moment White will chop on e6 and force mass exchanges either disposing Black's king hopelessly or ...

   Mar-07-18 Morozevich vs A Anastasian, 2003

Gouvaneur: @Breunor: The line given with 25...Qd2 is not that simple over the board though. Especially 30.cxb4 Qd6! -+ is difficult to see in advance. Now the White b-pawn is pinned and the Rb8 can't stay on the b-file due to Qc6+. Also, even if White loses the piece: If White manages to ...

   Feb-03-14 R J Dive vs Westerinen, 1989 (replies)

Gouvaneur: Not a good game of the day. Probably chosen for the sake of the pun. Anyway, <Phony Benoni> is right of course, White simply oversaw a mate with 22.Bxe5. The game looks quite spectacular, but if you analyze it a bit you will find out that both sides played rather mediocre ...

   Jan-08-14 S Ernst vs A H Wohl, 2009 (replies)

Gouvaneur: @morfishine: If you argue that way, then none of Morphy's games are worthy of GOTD. And actually, no game with a gambit-opening is worthy of GOTD. I really liked Spike Ernst playing in a "geometric" way, swinging the Queen from e1 to b1 to h7. Amateurs like me only see the ...
