Gab.pr: Philip W. Sergeant's book "Morphy's Games of Chess" clearly states that Morphy's opponent was Dr. Jabez Carr, a surgeon who was an uncle of George S. Carr, and co-founder in 1851 of the Leamington Chess Club.

Gab.pr: I think Morphy's opponent to be George S. Carr (1837-1914), British mathematician and co-founder of the Birmingham Chess Club. This is given in Philip W. Sergeant book on Morphy. The wikipedia articles in French, Russian and Italian also say the same.
