May-16-04 Lautier vs Shirov, 1990 (replies)

Blumster: Why 8.h3? wouldn't the pawn thrust e4 have made more sense, grabbing up the middle for sure? Can't help but feel h3 closes a hole that didn't need filling.

   May-11-04 Alekhine vs Y Kimura, 1933 (replies)

Blumster: arjunkakar: why was 16.qc7 played? why not c5? I presume because it is the better move. I think c5 is easily combatted with Nc6, then a few things can happen. Lets start out with the fact that black can't attack the c6 knight with the rook for Ne7+ fork with tempo. Queen attacks ...

   May-11-04 Bogoljubov vs M Walter, 1932

Blumster: Who's this Walter fellow? Seems to be the Grandmasters personal whipping boy, god, he really gets beaten elegantly. Sincereley though, whats his deal?

   May-04-04 F de Castellvi vs N Vinyoles, 1475 (replies)

Blumster: I believe it is called "legall's" mate, not "legal's" mate.

   Apr-29-04 R P Michell vs Sultan Khan, 1930 (replies)

Blumster: Underpromotion collection?

Apr-21-04 Deep Blue vs Kasparov, 1997 (replies)

Blumster: Shadow, the notation is 45. ... Qe3, and no, it drops a bishop after 46. Qd7+ Kg8 47. Rxd6, if it doesn't lead to quick mate, surely an insurmountable lead for a computer FULL of endgame combos.

Apr-18-04 Romanishin vs Kasparov, 1975 (replies)

Blumster: Ok, I've got a question for all of you out there: Why do GMs EVER play out lost games such as this one. Granted this was a simul game, still, why not just resign and save that time for other opponents? As a chess fan whose never visited a big match, I'm sure someone here can help

Mar-25-04 Alekhine vs Capablanca, 1927 (replies)

Blumster: I can't help but feel that the (Capablanca initiated) Queen trade killed any chance at victory he had. He's not the only one who knows how to turn small advantages into victories.

Dec-10-03 Benko vs Lilienthal, 1949 (replies)

Blumster: Gotta love how by turn thirty five Benko's got all his pawns on the opp. color square as his bishop, and Lili's exact opposite, there is no doubt Benko is a master of the endgame.

   Sep-27-03 Marshall vs W Napier, 1898 (replies)

Blumster: This game should be added to the Underpromotion collection.
