Sep-17-12 Motylev vs P Jirovsky, 1998
|
BiteByBits: white should notice that Re8+ & Re7+ delivers mate.
27.Qxf7 Nxf7 (black defender is removed) 28.Re8+ Kc7 29.R1e7# 27. Qxf7 Qxe3?
28. Qf8+ (not leave the queen hanging)
28. ...Kd7
29. Rxe3 now white has the queen and rook and game is over... |

BiteByBits: quite a sharp game, looks like what I would do in blitz against someone who overextends his attack..queen...lol. |

Oct-12-11 Bologan vs E van Haastert, 2005
|
BiteByBits: I chose 40. Nf6+ because I saw that the knight couldn't be taken first. I saw that Qxh5+ was equally winning but thought that the win was more complicated if black plays Kg8 declining the sacrifice. |

Oct-03-11 T Lanchava vs M Kursova, 2007
|
BiteByBits: at first i thought it could be 40. Ne7+!
then i realized that if 40. Ne7+, then Rxe7, 41. Qxe7? Qf2+!! and 42. ...Qxh2++!
so now if we remove the defender...the rook. With 40. Qxe3+ now we can fork the black's queen and secure the exchange without queen mate threats. |

Sep-21-11 V Mikenas vs Bronstein, 1965
|
BiteByBits: i saw Rxa3 after realizing that the Ra1 was the key in defending Qf1! if white plays Qe1+ (then white play Qf1) so now we have to distract away the defender somehow and look! after bxa3 we have Qxa1 (one of the keys to this puzzle). |

Sep-21-11 Bronstein vs Korchnoi, 1962
|
BiteByBits: i guess a vulnerable king is worse than down a piece... the black king wasn't open or vulnerable until the great move Rxh6! |

Sep-19-11 D Jacimovic vs V Trkaljanov, 2001
|
BiteByBits: this game reminds me of the beauty of the deflection/x-ray attack, which can vary from "easy" level to setup, such as this one with Re8+ on the back rank, to something spectacular, such as this game in 1974: Tal vs W R Chandler, 1974 20.♕e5!!! ♕xe5 (20...♕xc4! ... |

Sep-18-11 Polugaevsky vs E Torre, 1984
|
BiteByBits: ok really, with a seemingly closed position the only insane thing you could do is Bxh7+
19.Bxh7+
-19...Kxh7 20.Qh5+ Kg8 (forced)
21.Rg3! 21. g6 (or 21...Bh6!) 22.Rxg6+ fxg6 23.Qxg6+ Kh8 24.Qh6+ Kg8 25.Qxe6+ Kh8, 26. Qh6+ Kg8 27.Qg6+ Kh8 28.Qh5+ Kg8 29.Bh6 (this is the key ... |

BiteByBits: white tried to play a opening trick on black
black did the Bb4+ zugzwang check first and white was lost. |
