Nov-29-18 Carlsen vs Caruana, 2018 (replies)

Biroldo: Wimp Carlsen is rapid champion? Well, they played 12 classical and he couldn't be beaten. As a matter of fact, Carlsen had the better side on almost all of them.

   May-17-18 Ju Wenjun vs Z Tan, 2018

Biroldo: I wonder why didn't white give check back again on b5, instead of f3, on move 92 for a second repetition.

Aug-26-16 Lombardy vs Fischer, 1960 (replies)

Biroldo: Interesting how Black gives away a pawn to break that Maroczy knot taking advantage of the White king's centralized position.

   Aug-03-16 Carlsen vs V Gashimov, 2009

Biroldo: I wonder what would be the response by white if instead of 17...Qc8?! black played 17...Nd2, with threats 18...Nxe5, and ...Bxh4.

   Jul-25-16 Capablanca vs A Becker, 1929 (replies)

Biroldo: After 18... Nf6 I think white could come up with 19.Bc4...Qd8 (or Qa5) 20.Nxe6 etc..check it out.

Jun-16-16 Marshall vs Rubinstein, 1906 (replies)

Biroldo: 17. Be4?, of course not! It drops a piece for nothing after 17...Nxe4 and the black knight is untouchable.

May-24-16 Khalifman vs Van Wely, 2002

Biroldo: Pretty nice tactic game by Khalifman, made possible by the king in the center. Black needed 15... Be7! instead Rb8.

May-19-16 Korchnoi vs Karpov, 1978 (replies)

Biroldo: Excellent Karpov! This the triumph of patience and perseverance!!

May-12-16 Ding Liren vs So, 2016 (replies)

Biroldo: Of course, if 38...Kxf7 39.Qc4+ is no option for White since the Black b pawn is unstoppable. Instead 39.Qh7+ picks the h pawn since 39...Qg7 looses after the trade of Queens, then 41.g4 is an easy win for White.

Dec-23-15 L Bruzon Batista vs Carlsen, 2005 (replies)

Biroldo: Cuban chess is one of the strongest in America and the world as well...with Bruzon, Dominguez and several others already approaching the 2,800 rating barrier.
