Albanius has kibitzed 302 times to chessgames   [more...]
   Sep-17-23 F Parr vs G Wheatcroft, 1938 (replies)
Albanius: @Sally Simpson: "Kind of final position you get tattooed on your chest and strip to the waist when discussions about great games of chess take place on the bus." Tatoos were not so fashionable in 1938, but Parr did have a tapestry made, which he hung in his living room, of the ...
   Jun-05-23 Reshevsky vs Larsen, 1968
Albanius: This should be ECO E56, not E54, and is known as Larsen's Variation.* In E54 Black plays ..cxd4; in E56 B omits .. cxd4, instead plays dxc4 and ..Ba5. The normal move order is as in this game 7 OO bxc4; 8 Bxc4 Nc6; 9 a3 Ba5 followed by ..a6, ..b5, ..c4. But the position can also ...
   Jun-04-23 Carlsen vs K Shevchenko, 2023
Albanius: The normal move order to reach the game position would be 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 d6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Nf6 5 Nc3 g6 6 Be3 Bg7 7 f3 OO 8 Qd2 Nc6, which is B76, but then 9 Nb3 instead of the normal 9 OOO (or 9 g4 also B76, or 9 Bc4, which is B77 - B79.)
   May-30-23 G Flear vs Adams, 2021
Albanius: 27 Bc1 seems to defend against the threat of 27..Rf2 28 Rf2 Rf2 29 Kf2 Qxg2+ 30 Ke3 Qf6+ which is no longer mate, but 27 Bc1 Bd3! and mate is coming on f1.
Apr-12-23 Ding Liren vs Nakamura, 2022 (replies)
Albanius: This is not really a Tarrasch - by move 7 it is a book position of QGA.
   Jan-25-23 D Gukesh vs Abdusattorov, 2022
Albanius: 31 Qf3 attacking f7, h5, and also if 31... Qf6 32 Qa8+ also looks like a win.
   Dec-31-22 Carlsen vs Abdusattorov, 2022
Albanius: After 10 moves it is pretty much a normal Najdorf with colors reversed.
Sep-06-22 Carlsen vs So, 2019 (replies)
Albanius: This is the game with the variation later played in the very controversial Carlsen-Niemann Sinquefield Cup 2022. In the post game interview Neimann apparently got the citation wrong; Nakamura after checking the citation said that the game did not exist, implying that Niemann had ...
   Aug-17-22 M Bonch-Osmolovsky vs Ragozin, 1951
Albanius: Bonch-Osmolovsky is one of the great names in chess.
   Apr-02-22 Xiong vs So, 2021
Albanius: So-Nakamura Berlin 2022 followed this game for 26 moves, varying with 27 Qxb2. Same result.
