I love the game of chess and have been playing it for over 50 years. The game is as fascinating and fresh with new ideas today as when I first began playing. I trust that our mega-data bases, horizon 'pushing', and artifically intelligent researchers do not inadvertently delete our game into warped laser discs and lost storage chips. So I say now and forever "Long, long live the King!"

Jun-11-11 Polugaevsky vs Ftacnik, 1982 (replies)

azi: I think that white weakened his castled position without sufficient compensation, as black's castled position is not a mine field of weak squares. White pursued a pawn advancing attack on the kingside, without targets and sufficiently developed piece deployment. And black controls the ...

   Dec-29-09 V Laznicka vs G Jones, 2007 (replies)

azi: This is a strong and to the point win by Laznicka in a classic 9.b4 KID. White is able to take and hold the initiative for the whole game and transitions from opening to middle game and from middlegame to endgame in a timely and capitalizing way. By winning 2 pieces for a rook and ...

azi: Hi Just checking in. Any body else really like Laznicka's style?

Jul-04-09 Leko vs Kramnik, 2009 (replies)

azi: past tense of draw is drew or drawn not drawed (had to, sorry)...Druids were tree lovers, maybe they were the first wood pushers?

Mar-31-09 Karpov vs Petrosian, 1982 (replies)

azi: 2 small points I would add are: 1. creating a position/game with 'all tactics' accounted for is quite a task, imho (look at what wasn't played, Ma!) and 2. exchange of the pair of rooks at move 35...RxR, in general, favors the defense and what else to try anyway?

Feb-21-09 Topalov - Kamsky Candidates Final (2009) (replies)

azi: While Topalov has the demeanor of a seasoned professional Kamsky is still growing as a chess player. One also has the impression that he has greater potential in the long run. His first win against Topa heralds a change in the balance of power between these 2 great players. Each is a ...

azi: the emperor's taylor made a fine fitting garment, don't you think?

   Jan-26-09 S K Bru vs Movsesian, 2001

azi: For me, the amazing part of the game occurs when, from a cluster of interconnected pieces, logically placed on the board, the ray of possiblity that a highly original pattern of moves, dawns (the combination)out of a rumbling sea of mental analysis. Such is the chess instinct that tells

Sep-16-08 Grand Slam Chess Final (2008) (replies)

azi: I see this game as an adventure in "recastling" or maybe called, The 0-0-0-0 Game!! White's 0-0-0, is redone on his 15th & 16th turns, to a more secure arrangement, with ka1 and rb1, albeit the second regal relocation is castled-by-hand. It also calls to my mind Nimzovich's advice to ...

   Jul-30-08 A Dueckstein vs Petrosian, 1962 (replies)

azi: I have a feeling that Petrosian was demonstrating that he had the draw in hand at move 30 and there was reason for white to offer a draw ,rather than black. Possibly a point of 'ego ordering' by El Tigre or a prediction for white. A great game and 18..a5 is a stellar move!
