Amateur player, more enthusiastic than strong.

This site is one of my favorite pass-time when I am off work.

I am an amateur player. I used to like strategic players and games, and now I enjoy more tactical ones, maybe because I am more receptive to entertaining games than subtle profound ones.

My favorite players include Kasparov, Fischer, Tal, Spassky, Bronstein, Capablanca, Alekhine, Morphy but some other players and their games get my admiration like Andersen, Blackburne, Zuckertort, Mieses, Nezhmedtinov or the Polgars, and even some lesser known like Hartlaub, Diemer or Schmidt.

I enjoy watching good games, some played by unknown as you can find in my game collections.

Nowadays players I enjoy watching the games of include Morozevich, Nakamura, Aronian, Anand, Topalov and Vachier-Lagrave. Carlsen imaginative play is both fascinating and a delight to watch as well.

MJCB: Anish can now tell Magnus he won a major tournament! Or at least a dodgy tournament ;-)

MJCB: Not sure who won the psychological battle here: Magnus who created a better position in the middle game? Fabi who drew after he resisted very well? Magnus as he gave the tempo of pressure at the end, - even if this was a drawn position? Both because they showed they were here for a ...

MJCB: Why not 33... Kt h2+, followed by 34... Rf1. unless I miss something, this is mate?

MJCB: Thanks Boomie, went through your idea and it is quite amazing - you are right, it wins. Subtle chess is quite pleasant to watch!

MJCB: I was impressed - like many (if not all) - by the final combination. One thing that impressed me also with Karjakin - when looking at the video - is that when he played 49 ... Rh7, he seems not to expect a forced mate to come (he did not seem to have seen 50 Qh6 coming), but when it ...

MJCB: The work of the Knights is indeed impressive.

   Feb-17-16 Fischer vs O Celle, 1964 (replies)

MJCB: It took me time to understand why 23 f6+ first instead of the immediate 23 Rf1+ . In "my" variation (23 Rf1+), I win the queen like Fisher, but I subsequently lose a rook, unlike Fisher!
