He is the Canadian's Chess Olympiad (2012) and Chess Olympiad (2014) captain and coached a couple of other Canadian (youth) teams as well. Both he and his son, Mark Plotkin, have frequented the Canadian chess scene. FIDE Trainer (1) and FIDE master Plotkin won for his 1st time the 2010 Toronto Closed with 7.5/9 and successfully defended his title in 2011. In 2016, he, Richard Chen and Razvan Preotu topped the charts at the Hamilton Summer open.
