Ottomar Heinrich von Haken was born on August 06, 1854 in Riga. In addition to his tournament play, he was also a chess problemist.1 Von Haken played for Riga in the 1896 team match against the city of Orel: Orel Chess Club vs Riga, 1896 , Riga vs Orel Chess Club, 1896. 2 He was elected President of the Riga Chess Club in 1894, 1895 and 1896.3 At the Riga 1901-1902 Chess Union Jubilee Tournament, von Haken finished 8th with 8/15.2 On December 25, 1913 he drew against Jose Raul Capablanca in a simultaneous exhibition in Riga, Latvia.1
