Aug-27-07  Anyi: At the Rubinstein Festival here in Poland Andriasian finished second in the GM category tournement: http://www.rubinstein.64pola.pl/
Congratulations!
Aug-27-07  Mameluk: http://www.chessarbiter.to.pl/turni... Sorry. He did not.
Oct-11-07  Davolni: I wonder where Zaven Andriasyan is??

How come he is not playing in the youth tournament? does anybody know?

Oct-11-07  adair10: He will be playing in Essent in a couple of days.

http://www.essentchess.nl/info_eng....

Oct-11-07  Davolni: <adair10> wow,
what the hell is going to be doing over there??? ;)

It's not his class, look at the rating differences. I wonder why is he playing in Essent other than Junior tournament....

Oct-11-07  Prugno: The winner of the previous year's World Junior Championship always gets invited to Essent. In the past years Sutovsky, Sadvakasov, Galkin, Acs, Bruzon, Aronian, Mamedyarov and Harikrishna have all played there for this reason.
Oct-12-07  pawnofdoom: I bet Andriasian will be able to pull off a great performance at Essent. He will finally get a chance to play against the top guys. Despite the fact that he is over 130 points lower than the closest guy to him, I think he still has a chance. Van Wely hasn't been in perfect form lately, and Andriasian might have chances of scoring against Pono and Mamedyarov.
Oct-16-07  pawnofdoom: <pawnofdoom> Pretty pointless replying to my own comment, but I have to admit that I was really wrong. Half the tournament (3 rounds) has passed and Zaven has lost all the games so far. Best he can do is 50% and thats pretty impossibly against such a high opposition. Hopefully he won't do has bad as Sokolov did last year (0.5/6)
Oct-18-07  MarryCheckers: He looks like the guy from Lord of the Rings
Oct-18-07  pawnofdoom: That picture doesn't look like anymore. Sure, the black background and shading effect and his face+hair give him this darkish look and it looks like he's wearing some magical robes
Oct-18-07  Resignation Trap: <pawnofdoom> Let's hope that Zaven doesn't have an "oafer" tournament (as in "0 for 4", his current score), I hate to see anybody shut-out. Wearing magical robes for the last two rounds couldn't hurt!

A photo taken right before round one: http://www.essentchess.nl/2007/foto... . And a later one, after having been roughed-up by Pono and a victim of a Shark attack: http://www.r-s-b.nl/galerij/essent2... .

tamar: Zaven: "I've got a feeling we're not in Middle Earth anymore."
Oct-19-07  dx9293: Is it just me, or does Andriasian's nightmare in Essent 2007 remind us of another World Junior Champion being sacrificed?...Tal Shaked (1997 World Junior Champion) in Tilburg 1997.

He was virtually never heard from again.

Oct-20-07  hovik2003: <dx9293>
I wouldn't worry about his psychological setbacks after this tournament, Armenians are kind of people who by historical evolution are used to disasters and don't give up so early.

I think Zaven Andriasian will be a great player and you can save my post to read it in next five years. He is amongst few Armenian GMs that are expert in opening phase of the game and he is a natural positional player and by improving on his shortcomings in middlegame calculations and tactics he will be definitely in the list of 50 top GMs.

Nov-25-07  Resignation Trap: Andriasian tanked in Essent, but he has held Onischuk to two draws in the World Cup. How will he do in the rapid tie-breaks?
Nov-25-07  zoren: may the better player win but i think onischuk has more experience
Nov-26-07  notyetagm: Go Zaven!
Nov-26-07  NakoSonorense: What's up with that picture? Looks more like he's from Ukraine...
Nov-26-07  Resignation Trap: <zoren> You are right, Alexander Onischuk 's experience was the decisive factor. Here is a photo during the tie-break, and Andriasian has grown quite a bit of facial hair since Essent: http://www.chessbase.de/2007/worldc... .

Nov-17-10  arsen387: GM Andriasian won Russian Cup 2010 Men Section yesterday. He had an excellent performance, winning his two-game matches against higher rated players like Bologan, Sjugirov, Potkin and then Timofeev in the final. Congrats to Zaven, he played some great games there!
Nov-20-10  Vakus: Yeah, great job, he played very well. Expected rating change is +38 for Russian Cup 2010 and +18 for Chigorin Memorial, which makes his liverating ~2645. Here you can watch some of his games http://www.russiachess.org/live/201...
