GrahamClayton: Minor German master whose only tournament experience outside of Germany appears to be the 4th Central Government Championship at Krynica in 1943. Kuppe finished 2nd behind Josef Lokvenc, and ahead of Efim Bogulyubov.

Telemus: Kuppe (Eckbauer Berlin) was the great surprise in the master tournament Bad Saarow 1937. The favourites being the reigning German master Kurt Richter, Efim Bogoljubov and Ludwig Engels, but the result was:

Kuppe and Richter 7 (out of 9)
Bogoljubov 5.5
Czaya, Engels and Michel 5
Makarcczyk 3.5
Ernst and Dührsen 3
Weichert 2.
