Tabanus: Who is Martin Johansson Jr?
Jul-10-17  Retireborn: <Tab> Chessbase Big 2002 does know of two Martin Johanssons, both Swedish, one born in 1918, no dates for the other, but he was playing in 1997 with a rating of 2430.

The other is not labelled Jr, which may suggest they were not related.

However, I cannot rule out them being the same person, especially as 365 and ChessTempo do not have any Martin Johansson games after 1997.

Tabanus: <Retireborn> Thanks! He's not in the FIDE ratings site. The Swedish bio says Martin J. stopped playing chess in 1970, but possibly he continued with corr. chess (he was Swedish corr. chess champion already in 1950). I'll try to find out later - cf. the 1971 games.

Tabanus: Hmm. The Eskilstuna 1971 player is him. After that, I cannot find any 2000+ rated Martin Johansson in the old Swedish rating lists at http://www.schack.se/tavling/rankin.... I suspect he played occasionally even until 1997.

Tabanus: <I suspect he played occasionally even until 1997.> No...

See http://web.comhem.se/rodebyschack/r..., the 1997 player is (1881 rated) Marcus Johansson (probably) or Jan-Erik Johansson.

Jul-10-17  Retireborn: <Tab> Looking again, I see that CB 2002 does attribute some games played in 1938 to the not-Sr player. It does seem possible that they are in a muddle, and the Sr label was only ever a CB mistake which has been copied by others.

Tabanus: <Rb> Yes. I do find another Martin Johansson, but it seems he is/was only about 1500 rated (and possibly with no games here). The ChessTempo corr. games 1989 and 1992 <may> be by our man. Swedish Ch LuleĆ„ 1980 games are by Mikael Johansson, see http://www.schack.se/tfsarkiv/histo....
Jul-10-17  Retireborn: <Tabanus> Thanks for that link, some interesting stuff on there. Wish I could be more help, but good luck with sorting out the Martins.
