alexmagnus: Sorry to disappont you all but Georg Stein is long dead. He died somewhere in the 80s, though apparently none knows when and/or where.
Apr-17-10  whiteshark: You are right <alexmagnus>.

At the age of 15 he became city champion of his hometown, <Koblenz>. The page of his club states:

<Stein, Georg †

mehrfacher Stadt-, Vereins- und Rheinlandmeister, DDR Meister 1951 >

* Obviously the DSB fooled me last year. :D

Apr-17-10  wordfunph: thanks <alexmagnus> <whiteshark>..
Apr-17-16  TheFocus: Why can't they get an accurate death date for this guy?
Apr-17-20  Damenlaeuferbauer: <Chessgames> <TheFocus> I saw the former East German champion Georg Stein once between March 1983 and September 1984, when we both played for Schachklub Turm Dehrn (near Limburg in Hesse/Germany), a chess club, which does not exist today anymore, but he in a team, which played in a higher league than mine, at a Sunday morning at breakfast in a guest house in Runkel (near Limburg in Hesse/Germany, my team played at Saturday evening and his better team at Sunday afternoon). So he must have died later than 1983/84!
