Der Neunkirchner Meisterspieler nahm an drei Schacholympiaden für das Saarland teil und erwarb sich in den 50er Jahren ein nachhaltiges Renommee als Schachtrainer in Saarbrücken und Neunkirchen. Ihm zu Ehren findet alljährlich ein Gedenkturnier im Schnellschach statt, welches seinen Namen trägt.
